DAVID LOGGIE

ENTREPRENEUR & LEADER IN THE GLOBAL POTATO INDUSTRY

David “Dave” Loggie, was born in Montreal October 12th, 1933 and grew up in Chatham, New Brunswick. Dave moved to Summerside in 1953 and began his career as an office clerk for Canada Packers- Shur Gain division. He spent 47 years with the company, climbing the corporate ladder from office clerk and accountant to manager of Shur Gain’s Bathurst division. In 1965 he was named manager of the Shur Gain division in Summerside, PEI. Through hard work, dedication and his keen business acumen, in 1987 he became the Regional Manager of Atlantic Shur Gain and remained in that position until 1996, when he was appointed Vice-President of Operations for Shur Gain Atlantic. The primary business segments were fertilizer, agricultural feed and potatoes , including table stock and seed export.

Dave retired from Shur Gain in 1998 after a remarkable 47 years with the company!

During his tenure with Shur Gain, he was honored with a “World Potato Congress Award” in recognition of his “outstanding personal contribution and leadership to the development and progress of the GLOBAL POTATO INDUSTRY. It was a well deserved award, as it was through his marketing skills and respected business reputation in places as diverse as Greece, Algeria and Argentina that enabled him to “close the sale” . As well, it was through Dave’s leadership that Shur Gain Atlantic headquarters was located in Summerside.

Dave Loggie is well known for his entrepreneurial spirit. He was owner of Coastal Stevedoring for many years. (the company recently sold) He owns Kensington Truck and Tractor, and most recently has owned and operated a residential and commercial real estate rental and development business in Summerside.

Dave has received many awards and recognitions over the course of his distinguished business career, including being named Greater Summerside “Exporter of the Year”

He was also one of the three original committee members of Slemon Park Corp., who worked to create a new development scenario following the closure of CFB Summerside. Dave served as the original Vice-Chairman of the board of SlemonPark and moved on to become chairman and eventually was the President of Slemon Park Corp. from 2000-2002.

In 1955 Dave married Marjorie Huestis from WilmotValley and together they raised four children, Steven, Mary Jane, Judy and Paul and are now the proud grandparents of eight grandchildren.

Dave’s strong work ethic, business successes, entrepreneurial spirit and service to his community, make him a very deserving candidate for induction into the JA PEI Business Hall of Fame!
