The Junior Public Speaking, Inter JAM and MACE Debating teams, alongside the Reading (14 and under) team and Member of the Year (17 and under) now go through to Competitions Day on the 2ndJuly, at the County Showground, Stafford. The Show Choir and Ballroom Dance teams go on to perform at the AGM at Blackpool on the 7th and 8th May.

8. Assistance:

Please note that if you require any guidance or assistance with your clubs or with specific issues

or concerns we are here to help. Please contact County Office or your County Chair, Richard

Carruthers or County Vice Chair, Christina Coulthard, who will be only too happy to help you.

9. DBS Checks:

If you have now received your DBS Certificate, please remember to let County Office know the

Certificate number as soon as you can, so that we can keep our records updated.

10. NFYFC Convention - Blackpool:

Everyone attending must be over 18 and have a current YFC membership card. If you are

under 18 and competing and your parents want to watch you, theywill be issued with wristbands byNFYFC.

11. Youth Forum – Thursday7th April, PRUFC,

The meeting will start at 7.30 pm prompt. Each club should aim to send a maximum of 2 members to the meeting. Please note that if it is the first time that you have attended the Youth Forum meeting, you will need to bring a signed Parental Consent form with you if you are under 18.

12. Member Exchange:

The NFYFC Member Exchange Programme will be taking place again this year. NFYFC is

currently looking for host families within Cumbria YFC for the following young farmers:

14. An Evening of Traditional Cumberland Dialect:

Larch Cottage will be hosting an evening of poetry, story-telling and songs all performed in

traditional Cumbrian Dialect on Friday 8th April, 7 – 8.30 pm. £10 per ticket, to include a glass

15. The Prince’s Countryside Fund Land Rover Bursary

The British countryside needs talented people with new ideas and the know-how to keep the UK farming industry moving forward. And that’s why The Prince’s Countryside Fund has teamed up with Land Rover to offer five young people the use of a Land Rover Discovery Sport for a year to support their rural career.

Eligibility

·Entrants must be aged between 21 and 35 years old and pursuing a career in farming or a

related profession

·Entrants can apply for professional or community use

·All entrants must have more than two years’ driving experience, a UK driving licence and

no more than six penalty points

·All applicants must live in the UK

If you know a young, inspiring person perusing a rural career, we want to hear from them!

Applicants must apply via The Prince’s Countryside Fund website by Friday 29th April 2016

5. W.I. Annual Meeting, Thursday 14th April, 10.30 am, Rheged

We need two volunteers to go along to represent the Northern District at the W.I

Annual Meeting. There is no speaking involved, you just need to go along, listen to some

excellent speeches, eat lovely cake and meet some fantastic ladies! Please let County Office

know if you are interested in going along.

5. Westmorland Stockjudging Competition, Sunday 24th April

The 2016 event is to be held in two locations, Lawrence House, Levens and Park House Farm, Heversham, by kind permission of Jonathan Mason and Paul Capstick.

The competition will commence at 11.30am at Lawrence House moving on to Park House later in the day. A catering van will be available for refreshments.

This is an excellent opportunity for your members to “have a go” at judging stock prior to the Field Days.

If your Club would like to put a team forward, we would be delighted to see you once again. You are reminded that we give a £25 cheque to each Club that sends a team of four. There is no limit on the number of competitors per YFC and there are cash prizes for the prize winners.
