LCHS FOOTBALL – Roles

The Football Program at Lumpkin County High School exists for the benefit of our student-athletes. Staff decisions will be made with the best interest of the TEAM.

COACH ROLES:

  1. Be Consistent – Treat every coach, player, parent, and booster with integrity and respect.
  2. Be Positive – Encourage other coaches and every player. They give more effort, have better attitudes, and perform with a higher level of confidence when they believe that you care about them. Love is a much better motivator than fear.
  3. Be Demanding – Expect excellence from every player daily. They get the most out of their abilities when they make an investment and are held accountable for their work habits.
  4. Be Prepared – A good coach is exhaustive in his preparation. He is ready for all practice, meetings, functions, etc…
  5. Be Clear – Communication is an indispensable component to the success of a program. Players and Coaches alike need constructive feedback to fully understand what is expected of them.
  6. Be Available – Be visibly committed to the program and accessible to all who are involved.

PLAYER ROLES:

  1. Do Right – Make good decisions. Surround yourself with good people. Be where you are supposed to be – when you are supposed to be there – doing what you are supposed to be doing.
  2. Do Your Best – Be excellent in everything that you do. Work hard everyday. Challenge yourself to improve on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.
  3. Golden Rule – “Treat others the way that you want to be treated”. Remember that our team is a family. Support all of your teammates.
  4. Be a Team Player – Have an unselfish attitude. Ask yourself – “what can I do to make the team better?” A successful team involves every member fulfilling their role to the fullest.
  5. Accept Coaching – The coaching staff truly cares about you. They want to help you be successful in every area of your life. Understand that on field constructive criticism is directed at your performance – not you personally. Please do no accept it as such.
  6. Communicate –If you cannot avoid missing a practice or workout, it is your responsibility to communicate with your coaches.

PARENT ROLES:

  1. Be Supportive – Please support everyone involved in the program. Be a fan of all players. The team comes first. We are all in this thing together.
  2. Be Respectful – Please demonstrate a respect for all coaching decisions. While we understand that you will not always agree, be confident that each decision is made with careful consideration in the best interest of the entire team. In addition, they are based on many years of experience and many hours of game preparation.
  3. Be Positive – Please encourage everyone involved in the program. Be constructive in your communication. Negative criticism in any form always has a destructive impact on the morale of the team.
  4. Be Understanding – Please understand that it is the coaching staff’s primary responsibility to help all team members develop on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. While we promise to tirelessly prepare to win every game, we believe that it is a secondary result of excellence in these other areas.
  5. Be Involved – Please be involved. Find a way to help make the program better. There are abundant opportunities to plug in and demonstrate your support. Just ask how you can help.
  6. Be Cooperative – Please cooperate with the coaching staff, all players, other parents, and our opponents. The Golden Rule is a great model – “Treat others the way that you want to be treated”.

In order to maintain a healthy relationship between the parents and coaches in our program, it is necessary to establish a few basic guidelines for constructive communication. Please understand that our staff is certainly willing and available to hear each parental concern. However, we want to ensure that this communication is respectful, professional, appropriate, and beneficial.

6 – attitude and behavior of your child

Our goal as a coaching staff is to make football a great high school experience for your child. Please know that we work tirelessly to make your son better on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. We sincerely care about each member of the team. There is absolutely no correlation between how much playing time a player receives with how much we care about him. We are striving to build better young men and believe that their value as a person is completely independent of playing time. Our primary concern is with the overall well being of the entire program.
