Appendix 1 – Main Classes and Subdivisions

In all COVKARTSPORT Championships, Drivers are required to enter in one of the 3 Main Classes listed below:

1. Juniors – Racing in the Junior Championship

2. Senior Lightweights – Racing in the National Championship

3. Senior Heavyweights – Racing in the National Championship

Within each Class, there are 2 Subdivisions, which are defined by Drivers ‘Racing Weight’ – this is the weight of the Driver, wearing all required clothing, Racewear (i.e. Suit, Helmet, Gloves etc), plus any ‘Additional Weight’ such as Weighted Vests, Ankle Weights or Seat Inserts.

The 2 Subdivisions are defined as ‘Standard’ and ‘Plus’. For clarity, the Subdivisions within each Main Class are referred to as per the below:

1. ‘Standard’ Junior = ‘Junior’, abbreviated to ‘J’

2. ‘Plus’ Junior = ‘Junior Plus’, abbreviated to ‘JP’

3. ‘Standard’ Senior Lightweight = ‘Lightweight’, abbreviated to ‘L’

4. ‘Plus’ Senior Lightweight = ‘Lightweight Plus’, abbreviated to ‘LP’

5. ‘Standard’ Senior Heavyweight = ‘Heavyweight’, abbreviated to ‘H’

6. ‘Plus’ Senior Heavyweight = ‘Heavyweight Plus’, abbreviated to ‘HP’

In the following sections, the main class and subdivision weights are described – please read and understand the specific weight regulations in Appendix 2

1.Juniors Main Class

To be eligible to race in the Junior Class, Drivers must be aged between 12 and 16 years of age.

Any Driver who is 16 years of age at the start of the Junior Championship, must race in the National Championship for the whole season if their 17th Birthday is on or before the date of the final round of the Junior Championship.

Depending on the circuits that COVKARTSPORT race at for the National Championship, it may be possible for Junior drivers aged 14 – 16 to race as Guest drivers at certain rounds. Those rounds will be indicated on the National Championship Calendar, along with any minimum age requirements. Junior Drivers who choose to do this who are Members of COVKARTSPORT will still receive the discounted Race Fee, despite racing as a Guest.

The Junior Class is split into ‘Juniors’ and ‘Junior Plus’ according to the weight divisions below :

Juniors – Weight up to 59.99kg

Junior Plus – Weight at or above 60.00kg

There is no minimum weight for Juniors, and no maximum weight for Junior Plus.

3.Senior Heavyweight Main Class

4.Novice Class

A driver can be classed as a Novice in any of the classes mentioned above. A novice is a driver who has raced less than 6 races on OUTDOOR circuits.

Novice drivers are only able to win the Novice awards at the end of the season, or at an Open Championship Round. They will not be allowed to win any of the main championship trophies. Declaration of Novice status by a driver is based on trust. COVKARTSPORT reserve the right to refuse or revoke Novice status if a driver demonstrates a level of skill and speed beyond that of a typical novice. Therefore, if a driver deems him/herself quick enough to win one of the main trophies at the end of the year then they should not register themselves as a Novice.

5.Veteran Class

Any driver 50 years of age or older at the start of a season is eligible to enter the Veterans class. The driver will continue to race in and score points towards their normal Senior class.

IMPORTANT : All Drivers who are aged under 18, regardless of the Class they are racing in, must be accompanied, at all COVKARTSPORT rounds, by a Parent / Guardian, or a Responsible Person aged 18 or above, who is responsible for signing any disclaimers or insurance declarations on their behalf, and to maintain responsibility for the Driver(s) aged under 18 who are in their care.
