Second Grade Rocks!

Dear Families,

Welcome to second grade! I’m very excited to teach your child this year, and believe it will be an awesome year! In second grade your child will work to gain more independence and take on more responsibilities. Your child will actively pursue a variety of learning experiences that will be more successful with your support and encouragement at home.

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Jensine Wallace. I live in LaGrange, Georgia. I received my Bachelor’s (in Early Childhood Education) and Master’s Degrees (in Educational Leadership) from Columbus State University. This is my fourth year of teaching. I taught pre-k for three years, and I am beyond excited to teach second grade! I am a huge Auburn Football fan, love crafting, and enjoy spending time with my family, two dogs, and friends.

In our classroom we will participate in whole group, small group, and individual instruction in Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. It is my goal to give your child a variety of tools and strategies to aid him or her in reading comprehension. In math we will work to acquire a better understanding of place value, addition, subtraction, measurement, telling time, and money.

In our classroom I expect all students to be respectful of their self and others, try their best, and participate in all activities. By doing this we can all gain the most knowledge and content being taught. I use a card system for behavior in our classroom. Students are only asked to pull a card after two offenses of disrupting or disrespectful behavior. I offer students multiple chances to correct their behavior before pulling a card. Each student has five cards each day. The five colors and meanings are as follows: Green-Awesome Day! Yellow-Warning. Blue-Time to think of a better choice. Pink- Parent contact. Purple-Office Visit. I also give positive awards and coupons throughout the day. Some coupons may only be redeemed during Fun Friday time.

Please make sure that you check and sign your child’s planner and book bag daily for important papers and notes. This is a mainstream of communication for you and me. Also, please make sure that you put your child’s first and last name on anything that he or she brings to school. This includes money in a plastic bag or envelope.

If you ever have any questions or concerns about anything, please do not hesitate to

e-mail me at or call me at school, 770-927-6488. I’m looking forward to meeting you and your child and having an awesome year!

See you soon,

Miss Wallace
