Course Title: Certified Nursing Assistant Training

Description: This course is designed to provide students with the theoretical and practical skills necessary to take part in the clinical practicum of the program and to pass the Nursing Assistants Competency Evaluation.

Costs: A student fee of $54.50 will be collected to cover text and workbook.

Tuition: $308 ($77 per credit); KPBSD seniors $80 ($20 per credit)

The above fees should be paid prior to start of course (or first session).

A $210.00 fee is charged by the State of Alaska for the CNA certification.

This is due when applying to take the state CNA certification the first week in June, 2001.

You will need: 3 ring notebook binder, notebook paper, a black ball point pen, and a watch with a second hand.

Class Expectations :

This class is treated as a place of employment.

1. Students will demonstrate a professional attitude and ethical behavior toward this class. Any students who are dishonest will not be eligible for the clinical portion of the course.

2. Students who wish to go on to the clinical portion and receive CNA certification must complete the course with a 75% average or better. Students with more than two absences or tardies will not be eligible for the clinical practicum of the course. Students who demonstrate unprofessional or unethical behavior will not be eligible for the clinical portion of the course.

3. Two 4 hour observations to observe the work environment and expectations for nursing assistants are required by April 3, 2001 (end of third quarter).

One observation will take place at Heritage Place (262-2545).

The second 4-hour observation will take place at Central Peninsula General Hospital (262-8158).

4. Students will turn in assignments in the first five minutes of the period on the due date. (No exceptions)

The Alaska CNA Certification requires an eighty-hour clinical practicum:

The Clinical portion (80 hours) will take place at the Heritage Place during the day shift (6 am to 2:30 pm) and or evening shift (2 pm to 10:30 pm) Mon - Fri. beginning Monday, June 4th and ending Friday, June 15, 2001. Students must demonstrate a professional attitude and ethical behavior during the clinical portion. (All or a portion of this may take place at the Central Peninsula Hospital.)

The AK state written exam will be given 6/ 15th

(A 75% score or better is required to receive certification)
