BURCHFIELD PARK – RANGER DUTIES

A. Opening and Operations:

1. Burchfield Park- hook gates open

a. Turn on and carry radio

b. Fill out truck inspection sheet.

c. Post reservations at shelters.

d. Pick up litter in parking lot and empty trash cans

e. Open and Clean Restrooms

1. Sweep floors and remove any graffiti.

2. Wash toilet seat area and refill toilet paper.

3. Remove cobwebs and wash marks off walls.

f. Check and refill trail map holder.

g. Empty trash on board walks and dock area.

h. Walk to landing areas; pick up litter and empty trash in area and stair steps.

i. Remove ashes from grills.

j. Record car counts.

k. Clean shelters.

l. Clean Overlook portajohns.

m. Check playground for litter

2. Riverbend Natural Area – hook gates open

a. Open gates at Riverbend Natural Area.

b. Pick up litter and empty trash cans.

c. Clean portable restrooms.

d. Record car counts.

e. Refill trail maps

3. McNamara Landing – Lock gates open

a. Empty trash cans in parking lot, picnic and dock areas.

b. Pick up litter along Columbia Road, pathway from bridge through the picnic area and around the pond.

c. Walk down the pathway and inspect for litter in and around the river docks, empty trash can.

d. Clean portajons:

- Wash and dry toilet seat

- Sweep and mop floors

- Remove graffiti

- Replace toilet paper

- Empty ashes from grills

e. Inspect picnic tables - wash off with mild detergent, rinse with clean water.

f. Check and refill trail maps.

g. Record car counts

4. Bunker Road Canoe Landing – Lock gates open

a. Empty trash and pick up ground litter.

b. Clean handicapped portajon.

c. Wash tables and empty ashes, (as needed).

d. Inspect boards on landing and notify supervisor of problems

. 5. Baldwin Park

a. Open the restrooms at 8:00 A.M. and clean.

b. Consult the picnic shelter reservation list and put out signs if needed.

c. Pick up litter.

d. Inspect playground equipment. Fix or report, as required.

e. Clean grills.

f. Close park at sunset, unless officers are assigned.

g. Periodic Tasks:

1. Trim grass around trees, fence, grills and parking areas as needed.

2. Rake areas where cigarette butts or bottle caps or tabs tend to accumulate.

B. Burchfield Park - Mowing Duties:

1. Responsible for setting up a mowing schedule to maintain the following objectives:

a. At least once a week mowing of the entrance, access road and parking areas of Burchfield Park.

b. Trail system is to be mowed as needed.

c. All outlying parks must be mowed at least weekly.

d. Ballfield at Baldwin Park may be mowed every other week, if necessary.

2. Maintenance Objectives:

a. CLASS A: Highest level maintenance is given to entrance, access road, and parking and kiosk area. This area is to be mowed and parking posts and trees weed-whipped at least once weekly. Shoulders of access road should be mowed one tractor width wide. Restrooms are to be cleaned daily or as often as possible

b. CLASS B: Trails are to be mowed as needed. Trails are to be

kept free of fallen trees and limbs; boardwalks and bridge are to be kept in sound condition - loose and/or broken boards nailed or replaced.

c. CLASS C: Grass around boundary signs and directional signs along roadways is to be clipped so that signs can be easily read.
