Intro to Camera Shots and Editing

Objective: To demonstrateunderstanding of the various camera angles used for video editing. Shoot video using the camcorder.

  1. Use SpeedEdit to edit your video after getting your shots. Note: Please don't shoot ALL your shots at once, maybe shoot 2 or 3 off the sheet, transfer them to your storage device, and THEN edit those clips. We will need to share the cameras. Your video should incorporate:
  2. An introduction at the beginning of the show that has YOU on camera giving the following information: (would actually recommend doing this as one of the final steps, once you know what your presentation will look like)
  3. Your Name
  4. Grade
  5. A summary of the project
  6. Use lower third graphics to describe each shot
  7. Edited music or sounds to enhance the presentation in the background.
  8. Use text to identify the various shots. Use this only to introduce the shot and then take it off the screen.

Procedure:Video tape the actual shot that is being described, add a lower third that describes the shot. Add music to your presentation andmake it appealing to your audience. Please be creative and pay attention to detail and good editing principles. Each shot should be held for as long as it takes for the viewer to understand it.

Shot Composition Activity - Procedures

  1. Choose a partner (no more than 2 other people). But remember this is an individual project-NOT A GROUP PROJECT. You can take turns recording shots of each other but all editing must be individual!
  2. Go back to your computer; upload the video to your flash driver and save it for editing.Remember good file management is half the battle!
  3. Edit the video while looking for open opportunities to use the camera for your next shots.
  4. Be sure to save your shots in an organized manner so you know what each shot is and where it’s located.
  5. Hint: Shoot to edit! Start your camera roll 2 seconds before you start to speak; hold the shot 2 seconds after speaking (allows easy edit).

Ground Rules:

You will treat fellow classmates, all students and staff you come in contact with the utmost respect.

  1. The ability to work outside the classroom is a privilege; and not a right! Any abuse of this privilege will lead to serious consequences including but not limited to losing the right to work outside the classroom.
  2. Treat all equipment and computers with respect at all times. Abuse of equipment will lead to forfeiture of using the equipment.

Tips:

  1. Resources are limited so please plan ahead and expect to patiently wait your turn and be sensitive to others needs to use the resource.
  2. Look for unconventional ways to meet the stated objective (i.e. using your camera from home, using library resources, borrowing from others, using your phone, etc.)
  3. Complete your project a minimum of 2 days before due date; you will encounter unforeseen difficulties this gives you time to correct them.
