JOB TITLE:Catering Assistant

GRADE:PASS Grade: 1 (Spinal column point 6 - 8) of the NJC Salary Scale
(£15,014 pro rata) £7.78 / hour

LINE MANAGER:Catering Manager

The main duties of the Catering Assistant to include:

  • The preparation of food and beverages in menus to predetermined portions as instructed by the Catering Manager.
  • The preparation of all service area’s including the dining room and dining furniture in readiness for the stated meal / dinner time.
  • To serve customers in accordance to systems and procedures laid down by the school.
  • To clearing away dishes, cutlery etc, washing up and sterilising were appropriate all dishes, cutlery and other utensils after service.
  • The general cleaning of the kitchen, servery, dining and surrounding areas and the equipment after service this to include the disposal of all food and non food waste.
  • To report all defects / malfunctions within the kitchen, servery and dining area to the Catering Manager.
  • To carry out all working practices in a safe and responsible manner with particular attention to:-

a)COSSH

b)Health & Safety at work regulations

c)Food Hygiene regulations

And any other relevant enactments.

  • To promote the City Council’s Equal Opportunities Policies.
  • To promote the ethics of the school

Other Duties:

  • Any other duty deemed commensurate with the pay grade as directed by the Catering Manager or any member of the Leadership Team.

Training and Development:

  • To have personal responsibility for your own continuing professional development.
  • To seek support and guidance for your training and development need from your Line Manager.
  • To work under the PASS (Professional Accreditation for Support Staff) scheme as adopted by the Governing Body of this school.

This local framework has been adopted for all support staff permanently employed within ChildwallSchool. This was approved by Governors Finance & Pay Committee.

PASS (Professional Accreditation for Support Staff)

  • This will offer a PASS range from which you will be placed on the lowest point.
  • There are three incremental points within the PASS range; you will progress annually with one automatic incremental award on the start of each financial year (this is awarded after at least 6 months’ continuous service plus passing the probationary period of 6th months in this school).
  • Two extension points can be awarded above this PASS range which is subject to annual objectives which will be agreed annually as part of the annual review/appraisal process. This will be done in conjunction with your Line Manager and approved by the Business Development Manager or Head Teacher.
  • If a grievance is raised by the employee and is not resolved satisfactorily by the Business Manager or Head Teacher this can be considered under the LEA adopted grievance procedure scheme which is managed via the Governing Body in the first instance. (Full details of this grievance procedure can be obtained from the school office policy files).
  • Each employee will attend the designated five Inset training days annually, three can be designated for training purposes as directed by the Business Development Manager or Head Teacher.
