Job Title: 4-H Program AssistantDepartment: County Extension Office
Reports to:Extension Agent- Kate WhitneyFLSA: Non-Exempt – Full time
Position Summary:
The 4-H Program Assistant helps to coordinate the Bosque County 4-H program. Ability todemonstrate leadership and communication skills in working with youth and adults, and must be energetic and organized. The position involves coordinating and supervising 4-H events and workshops, as well as teaching at some programs.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Complete and maintain records for 4-H enrollment, club chartering, and eligibility.
- Assist club managers and project leaders with programs and record keeping.
- Communicate upcoming events and programs to 4-H families and community members through newsletters, emails, news releases, and social media.
- Assist Extension Agents in coordinating county-level 4-H contests and events.
- Participate in District and State-level 4-H events, as necessary.
- Conduct educational programs at schools and after-school events.
- Chaperone 4-H youth at camps and contests.
- Answer phone calls and emails from 4-H families and community members.
- Regular attendance and timeliness is required.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Ability to cooperate and interact with co-workers and the public frequently.
- Perform any duty assigned by supervisor within the scope of the department.
- Applicant must be able to pass at Texas 4-H background check.
- A valid Texas driver’s license is required.
- Applicant must possess a personal vehicle for travel connected with official duties and maintain vehicle liability insurance.
Working Conditions:
- The position requires frequent evening meetings and some weekend work, as well as attendance at some out of county meetings.
- Employee is occasionally exposed to extreme weather when attending summer camps, livestock shows, and contests. Exposure to animals, wildlife, reptiles and insects.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Associates degree or higher is preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Skills:
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and additional computer programs.
- Working knowledge and ability to use social media.
- Must have the ability to understand, remember and communicate routine, factual information.
- Must have the ability to apply common sense in performing tasks.
- Required to multi-task and meet deadlines.
- Required to apply oral and/or written instructions or other information.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift/carry 50+ lbs. to waist high level occasionally.
- Must be able to sit in a stationary position at least 50% of the time.
- Must be able to walk, stand, and move about inside the office and other departments.
- Ability to bend, twist, stoop, kneel, and reach to retrieve files and equipment.
- Ability to see, hear and use fine motor skills to operate a computer and various office equipment.
- Must be able to talk and communicate with others and give accurate information.
- Ability to drive vehicle in all types of weather conditions.
