Permission to Test Form

**** Deadline September 26, 2016 ****

WHAT IS GATE? GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) provides services designed to meet the special academic and social needs of gifted and talented students who have potential for high academic achievement. Lessons integrate critical/creative thinking and problem solving abilities. Emphasis is placed on self-direction, flexibility, and cooperation in social and academic settings.

Gifted and Talented Education Services (Grades 1-8)

Self-contained classes
Students attend full time, five days a week, at a school that accommodates the feeder pattern of the home school. / GATE Pull-out Itinerant services
A GATE teacher is assigned to each elementary school. The amount of time/number of days at each school is dependent on the number of students served. The primary service is a pull-out program of approximately 90 minutes per week. Identified students are pulled out and provided enriched instruction in small group settings. / Middle School Resource
GATE instruction may be provided in core content or core enrichment classes.

GATE TESTING AND PLACEMENT: Testing is offered in the language that best meets the student’s needs, and students are placed in the appropriate GATE program (self-contained or pull-out) based on test results. As a parent/legal guardian of an enrolled kindergarten through 6th grade TUSD student, you may request that your child be tested and considered for GATE services by signing and returning this form to the GATE office.
