Lessons 1960 to Present Day

1960s Vietnam

Goals- Students will personally study the United States’ history from 1960 to the present day, and then share their information with each other. Students will each give a ten minute presentation to the class, and then turn in a two paged paper to me. Students will be able to outline the main events that took place between 1960 and NOW!

Resources- 1960s mini lesson, PowerPoint, mobile computer lab, internet, printers, paper, markers, ect.

Bell Ringer #65- What do you think about the Iraq War that is taking place right now? Do you think that the majority of Americans support the war or not?

Objectives- Students will explore the cause, course, and outcome of the Vietnam War. (Standard 9, Objectives1&2 )

The 1960s/The Vietnam War

1.  WRITE THE BELL RINGER ON THE BOARD. Talk about the Bell Ringer= Relate it to the Vietnam War and explain how the majority of Americans thought the Vietnam War was none of our business and that it was a war of politics

2.  Have students hand in Bell Ringers #61-65 (just put them in the appropriate in basket)

3.  Hand out Vietnam Packet and tell them to read the packet and answer the questions about it (30 minutes) (keep the room quiet until almost everyone is done reading). Tell them we will talk about the war when I get back

4.  Once students are done with the packet, they should start working on their end of the year projects.

5.  As students work on their projects, please make sure that they use the internet appropriately (write down any names of students who are checking email, on face book, you tube, or anything else they should not be looking at)

6.  Collect answers from the reading packets, they should keep the packets.
