Subject: / Installation of Stratum PTC to an Archon

Installation of a Stratum to a Varian Archon Autosampler.

Installation of the Archon heated Soil Transfer line to the Stratum PTC

1.  Remove the Plug from the 4-way tee (located on the Stratum PTC valve oven).

2.  Insert the Archon transfer line into the back of the Velocity and route it through the transfer line channel on the Stratum PTC. The Archon heated line will rest on the top of the Stratum PTC transfer line.

3.  Bend the end of the Archon transfer line so that it will fit into the right side of the Sample Mount Oven Tee on the Stratum PTC 4-way tee (See Figure 8).

4.  Using a Valco nut and ferrule connect the Archon soil transfer line to the open port of the 4-way tee assembly in the Stratum Valve oven.

Installation of the Purge Gas and Aqueous Transfer Lines

1.  Remove the back cover from the Archon and locate the Purge Gas Cutoff Valve. The Purge Gas Cutoff Valve has three positions. Leave the NC position unplugged. Remove the caps from the COM and NO positions of this valve (See Figure 1 & 2).

2.  Cut approximately 18 inches of beige PEEK tubing (part # 14-6934-002) supplied with your Stratum PTC Kit Box and place a 1/16” Swagelok nut and ferrule (part # 14-3295-016 & 14-0158-016 respectively) on one end and attach it to the NO position of the valve where the cap was removed above in Step 1 (See Figure 2 & 3).

3.  To the other end of this beige PEEK tubing, place a 1/16” Swagelok nut and ferrule.

5.  Remove the Purge Line, green PEEK tubing, fitting from ¼” fitting on the front of the glassware and remove the 1/16” Swagelok nut from the reducing union.
(See Figure 4)

6.  Connect the beige PEEK tubing coming from the NO position of the Archon Purge Gas Cutoff Valve (Step 3) containing the 1/16” Swagelok nut and ferrule to the fitting on the front of the glassware where the purge line was just removed.

7.  Remove the Teflon tubing, Drain Line, from the side of the 3-way Sample Valve, located at the front of the StratUm, and the internal Drain Valve, located just behind the front panel of the StratUm (See Figures 5 & 6).

8.  Use a sufficient length of beige PEEK tubing and place a black Upchurch nut and blue Teflon ferrule (part# 14-8916-016 & 14-3123-016 respectively) onto the tubing as shown in figure 7. Hand-tighten the tube into the internal drain valve where the Drain Line was removed in step 6 (See Figure 6).

9.  Run the beige PEEK tubing from Step 7 through the hole located on the top left corner of the chassis.

10. Place a Valco nut and ferrule (part # 14-0243-016 & 14-0241-016) onto the end of the Beige PEEK tubing from Step 8 and insert it into the left side port of the sample mount so that the tubing goes into the neck of the Sparge vessel (See Figures 3 & 4).

11. Cut approximately 18 inches of beige PEEK tubing supplied with your Stratum PTC Kit Box and place a 1/16” Swagelok nut and ferrule on one end. Attach a 1/16” union and tighten securely.

12. Attach the Green PEEK tubing line (removed in Step 4) to the 1/16” union from Step 10 and tighten securely.

13. Attach a 1/16” Swagelok nut and ferrule on the other end of the beige PEEK tubing and connect it to the COM position of the Purge Cut-Off Valve.

14. Connect the Archon liquid transfer line to the 3-way sample valve where the Blue drain line was removed. Make sure that the 3-way sample valve is opened between the Archon liquid sample transfer line and the Stratum PEEK needle assembly.

15. Perform a Leak Check.

Communication Cable

1.  Connect one end of the Archon communication cable to the GC/IO position on the back of the Stratum PTC and the other end to the GC.

2.  Secure the cable by screwing in the locking connectors.

Note: This is a split GC/IO cable. See attached Stratum/Archon/GC Connections images.

Notes:

1.  The Stratum PTC can be controlled by the VOC Teklink 3.1 software or higher and 3.01 Stratum firmware or higher. The configuration will be for a standalone Stratum PTC.

2.  When running a Stratum PTC on an Archon it is not necessary to prolong the bake time on the Stratum PTC, A 2 min bake time will work.

3. It is important to connect to the Archon properly by clicking Tools | Configure Unit, selecting the Use Non-Tekmar Autosampler option box, and clicking OK.
