Meeting 2871

District Governor Jeremy Casburn

Jerry joined Rotary in Sydney in 1991 and enjoyed 23 years of service in two clubs, first St Ives in NSW and he then moved to Unley Club. He held most positions in Club Administration and was President of the Rotary Club of Unley in 2008/9 and 2009/10.

Jerry’s goals are to embrace change and to meet the challenges of the district Strategic Plan. Jerry is a strong supporter of the Rotary Foundation. He believes that the foundation is our charity and he encouraged the club to give generously. Jerry would like to encourage passion, friendship and fun in our Service to the community. His Motto is “Have fun – enjoy Rotary”.

The District Strategic Plan looks at where we want to be in 3 years and aims

• To be the service organisation of choice with dynamic, action orientated Clubs whose contributions improve lives in communities and across the world.

• To be a significant supporter of the Rotary Foundation with a greater number of Rotarians as Centurions.

• Embrace systems, technology and RI directions for effective communication and the promotion of our work internally and externally via Rotary Club Central.

• To have sustainable plans in place to ensure efficient and effective use of resources to maximise the impact of our efforts and contributions.

The District is also looking at increasing the retention rate to 98% and a net increase of one member per club.

Jerry also made some suggestions the district is looking at to promote Rotary including

·  Schools presentations

·  Rotary Days

·  Forming new Rotaract Clubs

The District 9520 Mission.

We will be the service organisation of choice with dynamic, action oriented clubs whose contributions improve lives in communities worldwide. Made up of ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

PAUL HARRIS SAPPHIRE PIN

This was awarded to our own Ray Trenorden at the meeting in recognition of the supreme effort Ray has been putting toward Rotary and the Club. His involvement in BBQ,s , organising the Yellow Brick Road, Meals on Wheels and all other club projects makes him a worthy and deserving recipient of this honour. His family surprised him as they arrived en masse to help him celebrate this achievement.

Ray joined the Club in 1978 and was President in 1986/7 and awarded a Paul Harris Fellow in 1999. His character can be summed up by an excerpt from the SA Football Companion.

Many champion schoolboy footballers do not make the grade at league level, but Ray Trenorden was not one of them So impressive was Trenorden that within just over a year he was making his senior debut for North as a half forward flanker, having spent some of the intervening time captaining the Rooster’s Seconds team.

The sort of player who brings out the best in himself by relentless hard work, determination, and a wholehearted commitment to all the less glamorous minutiae of the game, Trenorden played most of his early senior football either on the half forward line or across centre…… he produced the best and most consistent football of his career, exemplified by his near best afield performance in a losing cause in the 1963 grand final against Port Adelaide.”

MAD HAT NIGHT
