GENERAL RULES

  1. Enter exhibits (Home Arts, Fine Art, 4-H) on, Wednesday, August 16, 2017 from 10 am – 6 pm @ Triple C Arena. Items brought after deadline will be for display only. Enter all Fruits, Vegetables and Flowers on, Thursday, August 17, 2017 from 8:00 am – 9:30 am @ Triple C Arena. CHECK INDIVIDUAL DEPARTMENT RULES.
  2. Articles should not have been entered previously in any County Fair except for display only.
  3. Entries to be judged are limited to exhibitors residing in GarfieldCounty.
  4. Entries by non-residents will be for display only and will not be judged.
  5. All entries entered for judging, must be the work of the exhibitor, and shown in his or her name. All articles must be complete.
  6. Upon registration, all exhibits will be under the custody of the fair organization until they are officially released to their owners or community representatives.
  7. The fair committee with the assistance of volunteers will use diligence to care for all property placed in its charge, but the fair organization will not assume any responsibility for injury or loss for any cause.
  8. Any questions on the part of exhibitors or judges, not covered by these rules, will be subject to Utah State Fair rules. All decisions of the judges will be final.
  9. Cash premiums will be paid: Sweepstakes Ribbon = $20; Special Award Ribbon = $10; Blue Ribbon = $4; Red Ribbon = $2; White/Participation Ribbon = $1; 4-H Cloverbud Participation = $4.
  10. Exhibits may ONLY be picked up from the Fair building on Saturday after the Talent Show, approximately 5 p.m. If you are unavailable, please designate someone for pickup on entry form

All exhibitors will receive a t-shirt (per exhibitor) and chance (per exhibit) for the grand prize drawings. Note: must be present at talent show to win grand prizes.

HOME ARTS / INDOOR EXHIBITS

Rules

  1. Articles must have been completed during the last two years (one year for canning).
  2. Unless indicated otherwise, entry will be judged as an amateur adult. For special consideration, please indicate Beginner or Intermediate, age if Youth, Person with Disability, Senior (over 65years), or Professional (over half of income received by producing and selling items entered into fair).
  3. An exhibitor may enter two articles per lot to be judged. Judging is based upon a modified Danish System (Handout explanation available upon request).
  4. If article has been used it should be clean and/or pressed. Soiled articles will be disqualified.
  5. No entries that require refrigeration.
  6. Remodeled articles must be accompanied by a statement explaining what has been done.
  7. Please specify if an entry is from a kit. Any original design in an article should be noted on the entry form.
  8. Any part not completed by exhibitor should be noted on entry form.
  9. Specific Lots will be listed at time of entry.

SPECIAL RULES FOR HOME CANNING

Canning rules are based on safe food preservation guidelines from approved sources (e.g. National Center for Home Food Preservation (NCHFP), USU Extension, USDA, and Ball Canning). See , canning.usu.edu , or

1. Only products of home kitchens are eligible.

2. Products entered must have been prepared (by the person entering them) since the last county fair.

3. REQUIRED: All jars must be labeled with name of product, method, pack, length of processing time, pounds of pressure (if applicable), altitude, date, city, and recipe source (e.g. USDA, Ball, etc.) attached to the lower side of jar. If sweeteners other than sugar are used, include on label. Labels are available in advance from USU Extension Office or at time of entry.

4. All entries must be in clean, standard canning jars (e.g. no mayo jars) with new, single-use lids and rings.

5. A one-quart or pint jar constitutes an exhibit for fruit, vegetables or meat.

6. One standard-size jar constitutes an exhibit for preserves, conserves, pickles, and relishes based on recommendations from approved recipe.

7. One pint or 1/2 pint jar with lid constitutes an exhibit for jellies and jams.

8. Exhibits should be canned using scientifically-tested recipes, i.e., USDA, Ball, pectin brand name or NCHFP guidelines issued 1993 or later. Processing adjustments for altitude, time or pressure must be made and explained on entry label.

9. All fresh fruits, jams, jellies, pickles and relishes must be processed in a boiling water bath and sealed. Entries processed in a steam canner will not be accepted.

10. No frozen jams or wax seals will be accepted. Mold disqualifies a product.

11. All meats and vegetables must be processed in a pressure canner.

12. For jams, jellies, preserves, marmalades, pickles, and relishes, the exhibitor is requested to loosen/remove the ring on the jar (so judges can examine the head space).

FINE ARTS

1. The management will use care to ensure the safety of articles after their arrival and placement, but will not be responsible for loss or damage.

2. No entries may be removed until Saturday after the talent contest.

3. Work entered to be judged must be original and completed within the past two years.

4. An exhibitor may enter two exhibits per lot to be judged.

5. All paintings, drawings, pencils sketches, photographs, etc., must be securely mounted or framed and equipped so they can be hung. (bold and underline)

6. Items may be exhibited for sale.

4-H Exhibits

1. The following are requirements for 4-H member participation.

  • 4-H members must have been in the 3rd grade through the 12th grade on Oct 1, 2016 of the exhibit year. Pre 4-H (Cloverbuds: K-2nd grade) are also eligible to exhibit. Cloverbud exhibits are awarded a premium of $4 per exhibit for participation only.
  • 4-H members must be enrolled in the project in which the exhibit in entered by August 1, 2017.
  • Disabled and special needs adult members are eligible to enroll in 4-H and to exhibit in the 4-H department at the county fair. These exhibits may be eligible for the state fair.
  • 4-H members will be allowed to enter no more than one exhibit per lot. Exceptions to this rule are Food Preservation (3 bottles of different fruit and three bottles of different vegetables are allowed) Additional items can be entered in Open Division.

2. The following are guidelines and information for exhibits:

  • Exhibits eligible for the State Fair need to be at the Extension Office Monday, August 28, 2017 by noon. Exhibits receiving an “Eligible for State Fair” sticker can either be left or taken home for cleaning and remake (i.e. baked goods) and then brought to the Extension Office by the above date and time. Baked goods can also be frozen when made for the county fair and used for the State Fair if they win. Items taken to the State Fair will be available for pick up after September 21, 2016 at the Garfield County Extension Office. Items going to State Fair should follow State Fair 4-H Exhibit guidelines (contact Extension Office) or see the website at > 4-H Events > County and State Fair.   3. The materials used in CLASS 5 – (Artistic Arrangement) need not have been grown by the exhibitor

3rd Division ages: 12 and up.

  1. Pet should be handled by perso registering pet.
  2. Pet should be clean.
  3. Pet must belong to family of person showing pet.
  4. Pet must be from Garfield County to win first prize.
  5. Pet cannot win top prize two years in a row, but can win a blue ribbon each year.

Pets are Judged on:

  1. Appearance and grooming.
  2. Handling
  3. Tricks they can do.
  4. Most unusual.

Barrels, poles, keyhole, flag race, sweetheart race and hide race.

The top three placings in each event and each age group will be awarded cash prizes. A buckle will be awarded to the High-Point winner of each age group. To be eligible for High-Point Buckle a contestant must participate in a minimum of 3 events (of their choice). Points will be given to the top 5 in each event and each age group ( first place being awarded 5 point and fifth place 1 point). In the team event contestants will compete in the age group of the oldest rider, this means adults and youth can team in this event but will be competing at the adult level.

POULTRY FOWL AND SMALL ANIMAL SHOW:
