Tennis Talk

Welcome to the first edition of Tennis Talk, our new e-news publication that will go out to all members monthly.

If you have any ideas, suggestions or news you would like included, email us d please let us know what you think of Tennis Talk and things at the club generally. We are always keen to hear feedback.

Social

Some big events are coming up in the next few weeks before the Xmas rush so book them in NOW:

Open Day - Sunday October 14, 3-5 pm.

This is open to all members, non-members, friends, family, work mates – you name it. It’s the perfect opportunity to come down and check out the club, meet up with other members, talk to the coaches and committee, and we’ll even throw in a sausage or two. The Bar will be open and we’ll have some undemanding social tennis games organised for adults and kids – with prizes for players, so dig out that racket.

Please feel free to put this event onto your intranet, or print off the newsletter and put it on the staff noticeboard. The more the merrier and the better the tennis!

Pompallier is Auckland’s best little tennis club so come and be part of it.

Ladies Night - Thursday October 25, 6-7.30 pm.

You asked for it – so here it is – our inaugural Ladies Night. It’s a weekly event open to members and friends (friends can come 3 times before joining) and we’ll kick off in style with a Pink Night to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month. So dress in your best pink gear, and play for some great prizes, and afterwards join us for a glass of pink bubbles in the clubhouse. All levels and skills catered to, just bring your enthusiasm and energy.

Turn up by 5.45 pm to register. See you there!

Junior Social Tennis – Starts Friday October 26 4.30 - 6 pm

The return of another popular event on our calendar – junior social nights are a great way to experience the club and the kids love it. Open to members and friends and all ages and sizes and styles. The bar will be open and we’ll even sell you a sausage. It’s Ponsonby’s hip place to be on a Friday if you are a parent, so come on down.

Members: $5 Non members: $10 Adults: $ 2 for a sausage

Kids please bring a hat and a water bottle and you must wear sneakers (no bare feet or sandles please). If you don’t have a racket we can supply one for the night.

Caro Bowl HOME GAMES – 12 October and 2, 9,16 and 23 November

All from 6 pm

Yes folks it’s Caro Bowl time again. We’ve assembled two crack teams and we would love your support for our home games (see away games below.) Games start at 6 pm and the bbq and bar will be open for business. This is a great opportunity to see some of the best tennis in Auckland outside the January tournaments so take advantage of our lovely deck overlooking the courts and the city and watch the sun (and the opposition we hope) go down, in style.

Away fixtures for both teams:

Men’s Team

vs. Royal Oak 12/10/12

vs. Kohimarama 26/10/12

vs. Remuera 02/11/12

vs. Herne Bay 23/11/12

Women’s Team

vs. Royal Oak 26/10/12

vs. Kohimarama 9/11/12

vs. Parnell 16/11/12

If you find yourselves near these neighbourhoods do go along and support and enjoy the other club’s hospitality and of course some great tennis!

Bollinger Ladies Day in association with Evolu – Friday 16 November (rain day 23 November)

Another event for the girls – we’re going to restart Ladies Day so brush up your tennis skills and think about holding up that gleaming cup! Plus we have special guests, MPs Nicky Kaye and JacindaArdern and Spy magazine’s own Ricardo Simich will be judging the best dressed – on and off court.

It will be a round robin tournament, all levels included and we’ll have a canapé lunch, prizes, raffles and a glass of delicious Bollinger for everyone who attends.

Tickets: $60 players

Vending machine

We’ve installed a vending machine for the summer, so you can get ice cold drinks at all times. It takes coins only, so bring some spare change next time you come down for a hit.

Access to the clubrooms.

We’ve had lots of enquiries about access to the clubroom for members, so we are going to offer you a trial period to use it over summer. If you would like to have access please contact Chrissie Cobb () and arrange for her to take you through the opening/closing procedure.

Coaching

Term 4 junior coaching starts Monday 15 October. There are still some places available so contact Tracey O’Connor at for more details.

Tennis Fit is running three evenings a week, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 6-7.30 pm. And there’s a Saturday morning class too, 9 – 10.30 am. Cost $25 per class or $20 for six. Again contact Tracey for more information.
