Great Expectations Mini series Review

Title: Great Expectations

Directors name: Brian Kirk

Genre: Costume drama

Actors: Douglas Booth, Jack Roth, Ray Winstone, Vanessa Kirby.

The Great Expectation mini series is a story of a young orphan boy named Pip who lives with his abusive sister and her kind husband Mr Joe Gargery, who works as a blacksmith with an asistant named orlich. It is set 1812, rural England

The film reflects a contemporary issue, which is a class system where the poor are left with no choice but to steal, which leads to their imprisonment. If you are born poor, it is difficult, but not impossible to change your circumstances. The message it portrays is that you need to be rich in order to survive. You have to be one of the luckiest to overcome poverty at this time in history. On a personal level, I feel quite sorry for Pip having so little and being so young when he became an orphan. I also have a sister, but she is not as mean as Pip’s sister.

The plot of Great Expectations mini series, directed by Brian Kirk, begins with a boy named Pip who wants to become something more than a blacksmith. A wealthy old lady Ms Havisham asks Pip’s uncle Mr Pumblechook if his young nephew Pip can play with her adopted daughter Estella. During one of these visits, Pip invites his sister’s husband Joe Gargery to come over. But in their absence Joe’s wife (Pip’s sister) gets mysteriously attacked. When Pip is working as a blacksmith Mr Jaggers says that he has a large amount of money that was given to him by an unknown benefactor and must leave for London. He believes that Ms Havihsam is the benefactor. Years later Pip is heavily in debt. Abel Magwicth reveals that he is Pip’s benefactor, a convict that got transported to New South Wales. As people find out that an escaped convict is in their midst they have to flee London. Along the way, on the open water they see the all time enemy of Abel Magwitch.

This film expresses everything a great movie should have. It has a twist which creates a tense mood. The plot followed dickens original work. This shows what a triumph Charles Dickens book was. It represents Ms Havisham very well as she is very cold and very strange as expresses in thr book. It has very good acting, cinematography and a great atmosphere. I believe that it has a very goood story which represents excitement and mood. The film portrays that not everything in life is perfect. It is a very good costume drama.

Overall I thought this was a very good movie. The incredible actors complemented this great film. I thought the themes and ideas were great. Brian Kirk did an excellent job selecting the cast. I believe that this was a very successful movie that showed Brian Kirks achievement. I rate Great Expectations Mini series 4/5.
