Position: Design Layout Editor 2017-18 Internship

I. Position Description: The Athena Design Layout Editor will provide oversight and detailed specifications of page layout for the annual Ohio University yearbook the Athena.

Pages will be developed from initial conceptualization through final review.

Artwork will be produced for publications including brochures, Web pages, flyers, invitations, direct mail, ads and rich media e-mail graphics.

The student graphic design will earn significant benefits from the opportunities available for external and organizational networking, building portfolio samples, and gaining an understanding of a career in graphic design or visual communication. This position is an integral member of a creative team responsible for maintaining the yearbook’s visual image with its extensive public. The position reports directly to the editor and advisor.

II. Benefits of the Position: The student will gain an understanding of potential career paths in graphic design, visual communication, desktop publishing and college relations, while acquiring respectable portfolio samples of hands-on tasks completed in service to an international OHIO community of alumni, fellow students, business and community leaders, and University officials. This position provides the student with the opportunity to work collaboratively and creatively to obtain experience in self-management, responsible decision-making, teamwork, task follow-through, relationship building, and professional-level job expectations.

III. Qualifications: At least junior-class standing in a visual communications-related major (e.g., graphic design, art, photojournalism) and a portfolio. Experience in Macintosh software such as Adobe Creative CC (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop required). Experience in electronic (Web and other media) publishing such, Dreamweaver, Flash, Director, and PowerPoint a plus, but not required.

IV. Evaluation: The student graphic designer will be provided with ongoing informal feedback and an evaluation upon completion of the 2-semester assignment

V. Time/Compensation: The student graphic designer position is for the 2017-18 academic year (2- semesters) Hours: 6-10 hours/week
