(Question 5 is worth 2 points.)

5. Myrtle is 4 years old. When her mother makes a request, such as “come and eat lunch”, Myrtle ignores her and continues to play or watch TV. Sometimes her mother makes the request 10-12 times before Myrtle stops what she is doing and complies. To decrease this noncompliant behavior, Myrtle’s mom decides to implement a time-out procedure. The very next time Myrtle didn’t comply with a request, her mother picked Myrtle up, took her into the adjoining room and sat her down in a chair, explaining that she would have to sit there for 10 min b/c she had disobeyed her mother. (Mom remained nearby but out of sight to keep an eye on Myrtle.) Myrtle complained and cried loudly while sitting in the time-out chair. In response to Myrtle’s complaining and crying, her mother told her to be quiet, re-explained why she had to sit there, and then threatened that Myrtle would have to stay there even longer if she didn’t “get quiet. “

What is wrong with the way that Myrtle’s mom is implementing the time-out procedure?( Please don’t comment on whether or not Myrtle’s mom should or should not use time out in this situation. Instead, focus on what the mom did incorrectly in using this technique.) Be specific and thorough.
