Five shifts Monday-Friday within pre-agreed times between 09.00 and15.00 of 2 hrs each;
Four shifts Tuesday-Friday16.00-20.00 (4 hrs each);
One shift Saturdays 10.00-13.00 (3 hours each).
To be divided between part-time assistants on an agreed rota

SUMMARY OF ROLE PURPOSE:
To provide, (primarily as a sole worker in the case of evening shifts and Saturday working), an efficient and effective customer-focused library service responding to the academic needs of staff, students and other library users.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participate in the day-to-day operation of the library counter, operating the library management system to issue, discharge and renew items, and perform other desk duties.
Assist library users with their use of ICT facilities within the library, handling basic enquiries and assisting users with their access to and use of online library resources.
Carry out daily shelving and shelf-tidying to ensure items are available in the correct place and that the library is clean and tidy.
Assist in the collection management functions of the library including the receipt of orders, processing of new items, mending and repair of existing items, and other stock maintenance activities.
Assist in the lending services functions of the library including the operation of reservation systems, shelf checks for missing items, and basic maintenance of equipment for loan.
Assist in promoting, and improving access to, library materials, reorganising areas of the library and maintaining clear labelling and signage.
Assist with administrative tasks such as recording incoming post, carrying out stock-checks, compiling statistics and photocopying.
Monitor the correct use of library reprographic equipment ensuring use is compliant with relevant copyright licences.
Deal with money paid in at the library counter.
Assist with the administration of library overdue processes and procedures.
Actively ensure that student behaviour is managed so that the library is a productive student learning environment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Availability to work Friday evenings and Saturdays, albeit on a rota, is essential.
