Climate Change Issues in South East Asia:
Need to focus on Climate Change Activities & Work which will be conducted by the Researchers
Applicable issues which will be categorized in our KMS (i.e. Content by various categories):
· Agricultural Impacts
· Cyclones
· Drought
· Deforestation
· Extreme Weather
· Floods
· Land Management
· Landslides
· Temperature Change Impacts
Additional aspects of relevance which will be categorized in our KMS:
· Current Events (at a particular point in time)
· Recent Incidents (in a generally recent timeframe)
Other pages we will need to include with regard to the external resources used by the Researchers:
· ‘External Links’
· ‘Partner Organizations’
Another Major Category we will utilize in conjunction with the above categories will be based on the countries of South Asia which are relevant to our KM System:
· India
· Bangladesh
· Burma
· Etc.

The Structure of the KMS:
Another Major Aspect to Address: The naming conventions utilized by Drupal need to be changed (i.e. “Forums” as a method of exchanging research amongst members which can be with a view to publishing it as an article on a dedicated “Page” once research is completed and a report generated which is to be published; a “Blog” for informal communications about research topics and members whom have expertise in specific climate change areas and topics; a “Page” as the final Knowledge Repository for finalized & completed research reports related to any given specific climate change issue which are to be published by the authors.
All three categories and all related areas containing projects / information / knowledge / research / findings / tools utilized / resources will be recorded, and are able to be searched for and will be indexed in the system. All Projects will need to be categorized.
Access to external resources need to be accommodated for by the single point of entry being the KM system, therefore we need to include an ‘External Links’ and ‘Partner Organizations’ page.
For every category as identified above, we will implement a “Page”, “Forum” and a “Blog” on our KMS. This method is utilized to classify the Pages and Forums as more of an Academics oriented means by which collaborative work can be conducted and recorded. The Forums will be used by multiple members on specific topics of relevance for collaboration purposes. The Pages will be the final destination where the completed documentation will reside for archiving and downloading by other interested parties. The Blogs will be representative of a less formal yet productive area to share one’s knowledge and reflect on specific issues.
If any blog entry for a given category grows in to discussion deemed by the academics as worthy of further research, this can be accommodated for by migrating the specific blog to a forum topic, or even a dedicated page at a later stage, if so desired.
There will be a designated Administrator / Moderator for the KMS, whom will be nominated by fellow academics to look after the Administration tasks and play the role of a Moderator in regard to the relevance and quality of content which is created or posted on the KMS. The administrator / moderator can be one single person, or there can be more than one; for example one member designated administrator tasks and one moderator tasks. This decision is to be made by the users, as they see fit and practical.
The KMS contains the requirement to login with valid credentials (i.e. a Username and a Password) prior to having the authority to add content of substance (i.e. work on Pages, Forums or post Blogs). Any person with an interest in the site can request for these credentials to be granted via the website. Once an individual requests to join the site, an email will be automatically sent to the administrator advising them, and it is then the administrator’s decision to approve and grant the user access to the site or to deny access; based on an individual case by case process. The system does have the capacity to grant various differing levels of access, therefore it is possible to grant basic access where the user cannot modify or change anything, but is able to write and comment on a blog. This is a viable option to educate and cater to the needs of general members of the public or students with an interest in the topic; however it will involve a higher degree of complexity regarding the moderation aspect of the content that users post online. The moderator / administrator will also be involved in the creation of Pages once work has been completed regarding a specific topic and is ready to be published in the public domain or archived.
All 25 academic fellows from the South East Asian Institutions, relevant Monash University academics involved with this project, in addition to any other related stakeholders identified will be pre-registered as members on the system; and administrator / moderator accounts will be allocated to the individual/s identified as taking on those responsibilities.
The Two Main Effects of Global Warming:
OPTIONAL – We can incorporate this if it will remain consistent with our overall structure, otherwise start with the above topics as our first level categories; and perhaps add this as a separate section or not include it at all
i. Increase of temperature
ii. Rising Sea Levels
