1) Review OISE Accomplishments for 2012/13:

·  ESE Infusion Initiative. Hillary reported that over 1,000 students were involved in ESE Infusion across all 4 ITE pathways (consecutive, concurrent, MT, and MA programs). Over 950 teacher candidates (TC) involved ESE infusion as part of their program and approximately 100 TCs were involved in Environmental Leadership Certificate. Please see attached for full report.

·  Eco-Art Project. 4 eco-art projects were installed throughout the OISE building last year. 3 are located in the center fire stairways and 1 in the c level subway entrance.

·  OISE Learning Garden Initiative. OISE received a $5,300 grant from TD friend of the Environment to establish the OISE Learning Garden in front of the OISE building. The gardens were created with 5 central themes: Aboriginal Education, Equity & Inclusive Education, Holistic Education, Creativity in Education, and Environmental and Sustainability Education Garden. Since the planting of the garden, OISE has hosted an open house and 2 workshops which were well attended.

2) Updates on Current Projects:

OISE Sustainability Project. OISE has agreed to become a test pilot under UofT funded sustainability project aimed at reducing energy consumption in the building. During the summer, sensors were installed so that the building’s and university’s energy consumption will be matched by the occupancy level of the building. It is estimated that OISE will saving about $300K-$400K in energy costs. The projected payback for this project is 3 years.

Kiosk Update. As part of the above mentioned project, a kiosk will be installed in the lobby to display the building’s energy use in real time.

3) New Sustainability Initiatives for 13-14 Academic Year

Eco-Art Project. Up to 3 more eco-art projects are planned this year. 2 of 3 artwork will be installed in the fire stairwell and 1 at CTL’s new conference room.

Print Reduction. To encourage the community to print less, three initiatives are planned:

·  Posters promoting less printing are being developed with the help of student designers.

·  Faculty are encouraged to put more of their course packages on-line.

·  OISE is exploring print tracking software from Xerox to monitor and manage its fleet of printers

OISE Roof Garden. Helen recently met w/ central facilities and services and has requested F&S to present her with several options for a 5th floor roof garden. Some of the ideas currently being floated:

·  Install planter boxes at the south side of the buildings

·  Install a wider roof garden on the north side – the area that is directly facing rooms 5-210 & 5-220.

·  Access will be granted only to F&S staff for the purpose of maintaining the garden.

·  Once a concrete plan has been developed, OISE may seek external sponsor like TD friends of the Environment to fund the initiative.

·  The committee notes that the faculty club currently has a roof garden and could serve as a model in OISE’s own roof garden development.
