Development Intern –Washington, DC

Organization Overview

The Lupus Foundation of America, DC/MD/VA (LFA-DMV) Chapter, provides support, services and hope to all people affected with lupus in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. LFA-DMV (www.lupus.org/dmv) offers current information, education programs, support groups and personalized help with questions that arise for the over 80,000 people in the region who live with lupus, their families and friends. LFA-DMV also supports research and promotes lupus awareness.

Position Overview

The Development Intern provides support for the Director of Development in an effort to cultivate the Lupus Foundation’s fundraising activities. The Development Intern will be involved with donor stewardship, grant writing, special events, direct mail solicitations, and workplace giving. This internship offers the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of donor engagement grant writing and sponsor outreach in a fast pace professional environment.

·  Data Entry and updating donor records in E-Tap and Kintera

·  Assist with donor call-a-thon

·  Participate in grant research and writing

·  Assist with sponsorship outreach

·  Work on direct mail appeals

·  Represent the Lupus Foundation at workplace giving and other community events

·  Work with Development Director to design special funding initiatives.

·  Work with Special Events Intern on Put on Purple campaign.

·  Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

·  Excellent organizational skills; ability to prioritize and manage a variety of complex tasks and assignments

·  Willingness to make a strong commitment to a mission-driven organization

·  Excellent computer skills, including competency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

·  Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

This internship is being offered during the 2016 fall semester at a minimum of 20 hours a week. Days and times are flexible. Internship will begin September 12th and end December 9th, 2016.
