Living Box – Prefabricated Living Unit

A worldwide home – paradoxical or real?

The Living Box is a response to current and future social, economic and even political changes. The working place is no longer urgently place-, but more combine- bound. Often flexibility is demanded, as far as the place of work is concerned.

As humans entirely associate their homes with stability and security, a sudden change of place can thoroughly involve a long period of time to get used to the new circumstances. The Living Box prevents that.

Living and working stay closely linked to each other, because the Living Box can be put up worldwide without major expenditures (by helicopter, truck or ship). Only connections for electrical current, lines for fresh water and sewerages are required.

Outer Design:

The long sides are completely glazed to light up the room pleasantly. The oblique division of the glazing is modelled on the beading form of container walls. The light- and dark blue glazing are in a tensional contrast with the yellow and white colours in the inside. The glazing is transparent and in some parts transluzent to create intimate sectors and to prevent insights from outside. The container is lacquered white on the outside to strengthen the concept of colours and to prevent from a too strong warming in the summer months on the other hand.

Interior Design:

A high living comfort is achieved by soft, rounded forms that are modelled on the beading form as well, by a reasoned concept of colours and a clear division.

A “Box-in-Box” system allows variable ground plans. Single living moduls can be designed and installed individually. As a contrast to the glazing the floor is covered with yellow linoleum in the area between the living moduls. The fitted furniture are absolutely subject to the design concept: white mineral material and white linoleum on the floor integrates the furniture into the room just as the already mentioned beading form does.

The comfort is raised by selected indoor plants.

Technology:

Under the mounted floor all installation tubes are layed. There are also the connections for electrical current, lines for fresh water, sewerages, the water heater and the air- conditioning system.

The shower tub is subsided into the ground to provide an entrance at ground level, the shower is hidden inside of the ceiling. Showering becomes a walk in the rain.
