XI.Achievement of Programmatic Objectives:
The purpose of the project this summer was to expand and enrich the participants’ knowledge of the Zulu language and culture to prepare them for careers in area studies disciplines related to South(ern)Africa. We wanted to provide the participants with advanced training in standard Zulu, with particular emphasis on the communicative development of receptive (listening and reading) and productive (writing and speaking) skills. This objective was to be attained by selecting the most qualified students, the best available instructors, and the most suitable linguistic and cultural settings.
