Mahopac Central School District / Three View Drawing Curriculum – 8th Grade

DREAM HOUSE PLAN - 8th GRADE

In order to complete the drawing you must do the following:

1. If the computer is already on - skip to: step 4

2. Turn on computer.

3. When desktop shows icon for "Autodesk Actrix" double click on icon.

4. "New Drawing" will be highlighted along with "Basic Drawing.axt"

5. Highlight "Basic Drawing.axt"

6. Click okay

7. Go to File and choose "page setup"

8. Make it landscape.

9. Click okay

10. Go to Format and choose "Units"

11. Make the units "Feet"

12. Make the scale 1" = 1' (this makes each inch on the drawing equal to 1 real foot.)

13. Make the grid spacing "0.30" for both horizontal and vertical.

14. Click "OK"

15. Line up the left side of the grid with the top "O" and left "O".

16. Have your teacher check the settings before starting.

17.. You are now ready to start your dream house:

A. There are different elevations for your house (views).

Draw the front elevation as a basic studed wall.

a. studs are 16" on center, a sill plate and top plate

b. look at the example provided.

c. you should have a main entrance door and at least one

window on each side of the door.

B. Have your teacher show you how to letter and hatch.

C. Draw a title box:

a. start at 6' on the top ruler and 6" on left ruler.

b. make a rectangle to 10' on the top ruler and 1' on the left ruler.

c. use arial 14pt for the font.

d. use the example to see what it should include.

D. To save:

a. go to file

b. save in "My documents"

c. save as Drawing 1, your name (first initial,last) type of day

YOU SHOULD SAVE OFTEN - IF THE POWER IN THE ROOM GETS TURNED OFF- YOU WILL LOOSE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE!!!

15. You are now ready to start your house:

A. There are different elevations for your house (views).

1. Draw the front elevation first. You need to include:

a. Windows.

b. The front door.

c. Steps or porch.

d. Roof.

e. Dormers if any.

f. Chimmey.

g. Dimensions for each part of your house - ask your instructor to show you how.

REMEMBER - SIZES SHOULD BE CORRECT FOR SIZE OF HOUSE!!!

B. Start from 4' on the left and top rulers.

C. Use Arial 10 pt for your letter size.

D. Make a title box - use the example provided.

1. Use arial 12pt for your font size.

2. Start at 1' on the left ruler and 26' on the top ruler.

3. Make the rectangle 3' high x 16' long.

E. To save: Go to file

Save in "My documents"

Save as Drawing 1, your name (first initial,last) type of day

16. Now you can shade and hatch to make it look like a real house:

A. Remember to include the following:

a. Type of siding.

b. Foundation (brick or concrete).

c. Roof.

d. Dormers if any.

e. Chimmey.

17. Continue the same way for your side elevation. (set up the drawing the same as you did for the front elevation.)

18. Save the same way as before also.

YOU ARE NOW READY TO MAKE YOUR BILL OF MATERIALS

A bill of materials tells the builder what the owner or archtitect wants to use regarding type, size, number, and cost of each door/window etc.

1. Start the same as your other drawings.

2. Highlight "Basic Drawing.axt"

3. Click okay.

4. Draw a rectangle 1/4" from left "0" and top "0" to 8" on the top ruler and 10 1/4" on the left ruler.

5. Snap a line at the 9 3/4" mark on the left ruler across the page.

6. Snap a line at the 10" mark on the left ruler across the page.

7. Snap a verticle line at the 2 1/2" , 4 3/4" , and 6 1/4" marks on the

top ruler.

8. In the top space of the paper; type in Arial 24pt,

"BILL OF MATERIALS" - make sure you center it.

9. Follow the example for the rest of the bill of materials. (use 20pt)

10. Save as before but as "Bill of Materials".

11. Include doors, windows, skylights, and garage doors.
