Hi Hikes Volunteers –

Virginia Journeys 2011 is less than a month away!

Directions: Conference registration will take place in the gym of the King Center and the Hikes departure location will be in front of the King Center so the directions are the same whether you are coming to the Conference of just coming to Emory & Henry to lead hikes.

Take Exit 26 off of I-81 and follow the signs for Emory & Henry. This will be a right turn if you are coming from the north or a left turn if you are coming from the south. After a little less than ½ mile, you will come to the main entrance to Emory & Henry. Go past this entrance and bear right under the railroad bridge. After an additional ½ mile, turn right onto IttaBena Road. The King Center is the first building on your right.

When You Arrive: If you are coming to the Conference or arriving the evening before you are leading a hike, please stop by the Hikes Desk and check in when you arrive. We’ll have some information for you. You can get your volunteer t-shirt at the Volunteer Desk, which will be located right next to the Hikes Desk in the gym.

If you are coming just before your hike(s), you don’t need to check in at the Hikes Desk. Just come to the tent in the Hikes departure area in front of the King Center and you can check in there.

Hike Leader Meeting: There will be a short optional meeting for the Hike Leaders and Co-Leaders/ Assistant Hike Leaders on Friday evening starting at 7:00 PM. The meeting will be in the Board of Visitor’s room in Van Dyke Hall, which is the building where the dining hall is located. We will have the room open by 6:30 so you can come a little early to meet some of the other hike leaders if you wish.

Volunteer Reception: The Volunteer Reception will be from 5:30 – 6:30 PM on Monday, July 4. It will be held across the railroad tracks from the main campus at Addison’s. There will be beer, wine, soft drinks, munchies, and door prizes!

If you have any questions about the conference or your hikes, please let me know. Thanks for volunteering.
