Sara Hughes!

DearStrongsvillePRIDE,

I am Sara Hughes, proudStrongsvillealumna.

While atStrongsvilleI was a member oftheSHSstudent council, dance team, asaxophone instrumental musicianin the top of the 4 concert season bands, (the wind ensemble),as well as, one of the fourflag squadcaptainsin ourNationally Performance TouredStrongsville H.S.Marching Band.

I am proud to be aStrongsville Mustang and have shared two of my mostfavorite memories:

The first being, my2006SHSWind Ensemble was selected as one of Ohio's premiere high school concert band ensembles. Through that honor we were invitedtoperformat the beautifulSeverance Hall."It was an amazing honor and experience to look out into the huge audience and know that I, a high school instrumentalist, was performing in the same venue and stage that the professionals do!"

I am pictured below to the right of my band director Mr. H. third row, fifth from the end.

The second, andone of my greatest memories, is when myStrongsville H.S.Marching Band wasselected as theonlyOhiomarching bandto perform on National television in the2006New York CityMacy's Thanksgiving Day Parade!

I am pictured below, third from right, front row, on the cover of our yearly recording CD.

What an incredible experience to perform in front of MILLIONS of people live and world wide, hold a3amtelevision rehearsal, police escorts of our many band buses through NYC andfor myStrongsville H.S. Band to benamed theBEST band in the2006NYCMacy's Thanksgiving Day Paradeby television host Matt Lauer as well! Wow, it was AWESOME, as all of us, a big family of Mustang musicians, felt just like celebrities!...... I am so thankful to have been a member of the greatStrongsvilleband program. Looking back, those favorite high school band memories are from times spent in National television parades, numerous events and shows, various camps, and fun practices...... being both a flag captainandsaxophone player in the band taught me leadership and teamwork skills, work ethic, and the importance of commitment.Being in the renownSHSBand program helped shape the person I am today and I am forever grateful for it!

*Below are my favorite photos of the famous balloons and television hosts of mySHSband's 2006 Macys Parade performance tour in New York City.*

After high school, I attended the esteemedMiami University atOxford

graduating in 2011 with aBachelor's of Science in Marketing.

Following graduation, I moved back to Cleveland and worked at Recovery Resources in the Development department. Because of all of the wonderful teachers I had inStrongsvillegrowing up, it was always a dream of mine to follow in their footsteps and become a teacher. My amazing parents, family members, friends, and past educators encouraged me to follow this dream, I made the choice to attendBaldwin Wallace Universityto get myMaster's of Arts in Educational Technology. I received my Master's degree and teaching license in 2015 and have been teaching Computer Applications classes to 5th and 6th graders at Avon Local Schools. In my free time, I enjoy working on myown company greeting card line, Post Paper Goods.I currently sell my line at Paper Trails of Rocky River where they continue to be recognized as a top-selling brand. I love any chance I can to design new Cleveland-themed cards or wedding invitations! In the future, I would love to continue teaching while also expanding my paper goods Company line into more stores or perhaps,a store of my own!

Thank youStrongsvilleP.R.I.D.E,

As all of us alumni feelvery honoredto have you print our shared great memories, photos and accomplishments.
