Black History Month Research Report
Dear Students & Parents, Jan. 30, 2017
During the month of February students will complete a biography report that highlights the life achievements of an African American Scientist, Inventor or Mathematician. This report will be counted as a Science TEST grade. Students will select a famous scientist, inventor, or mathematician from a pool of names chosen by Mrs. Jones. Most of the research for this report will be worked in class this week, but the final report project must be typed or neatly hand written at home. The report is due on
Tuesday, Feb. 7,2017.
Requirements:
1. Research facts about the person’s childhood, education, career, and achievements in their field.
2. Choose one of the templates-“Origami Catepillar” or “Biography Hanger” to display the facts about the chosen person.
3. If you choose the Origami Catepillar, you must write “12” separate facts and include three pictures of the chosen person (see direction sheet.) Lightly color in each space in different colors (use colored pencils or crayons) after the facts are written on. The pictures (drawn or printed copy) should include one of the person, and two pictures of symbols representing the person’s achievements.
4. If you choose the Biography Hanger, you must write facts in two complete paragraphs with 5 to 7 sentences in each. You must draw a large enough face, neck and shoulders (upper torso; see direction sheet) of the person on a poster board and then attach it to a hanger. DRAW the picture to include as many details as you can. Use colored pencils, crayons, markers, etc. Be neat!!!
5. Be creative and do your best work for the best grade possible!
6. Be prepared to present your report to the class with a short (maximum of 2 minutes) oral presentation.
Please have your son or daughter create and practice their short speech (he or she can use index cards or a word processor) using the information they put on the project. If you have any questions, send an email to or write a note.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jones
* Your child may not use the project report he or she submits as his/her final product during the oral presentation.
