Congratulations!

Serero Mametela, a Grade Six pupil at Vuleka Northriding, has been selected to represent the Supersport Soccer Squad at the Mundialito Soccer Tournament in Spain in April 2017. We congratulate him on his selection. We wish him well as he embarks on a journey to raise the funds needed to attend the tournament.

Parent Meeting feedback

Thank you very much to the many parents that attended the Parent Orientation Meeting on 14 January. Your happy faces and positive feedback is a sign of a tremendous year together. Those who could not attend, please make sure that you have received the necessary paperwork from your child. Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to be on the PTA. The class representative will be finalized and we will meet for a brief meeting after the AGM in March.
An idea from a ‘tech savvy’ parent is to download the CAPS curriculum from the Department of basic Education website, so that you can keep abreast of the content that his child will be covering this year.
Look out for details of our maintenance day on Saturday 4 February.

Healthy Lunchboxes

Help your child to have a happy, successful day by giving him or her a healthy lunch for school EVERY day. Would you survive on no food or drinks the whole day? Please include some fruit and brown bread sandwiches. A protein eg. Cheese or cold meat is also a good choice. Send a bottle of water as there are often water outages. Fruit juice is healthy but contains a lot of sugar. Children in aftercare must have sufficient food to last them for the long day.

Edupac Parent Portal

The launching of this portal as a communication tool is very exciting and promises to be a most constructive communication tool. We will keep this slot on the newsletter until the app is working well for everyone. The first step is to follow the instructions on the hand out to download the apps on your various devices. We receive our training next week and we will pass the information on.

PE days and Sports kit

The correct Vuleka sports kit must be worn for PE lessons which are on the following days for each grade:
Grade 0 – 3 – Thursday
Grade 4 – 5 – Tuesday
Grade 6 – 7 – Friday
At Vuleka, swimming is a compulsory activity and water safety is a life preserving skill. Every child must have the correct swimming costume and cap to begin Swimming. This is not an optional activity and there will be consequences for those who don’t swim.
The fee of R300.00 is payable upfront for the term, as the venue, coaches and transport is booked in advance for the term. Please can this fee be paid as soon as possible.
Swimming is still on a Wednesday, but the normal school uniform should be worn, over the swimming costume. Please remember to pack in dry underwear for changing after the swimming lesson.

Transport

A request to all parents to remind the transport drivers, that if they arrive at school after 14h30 your children will be placed in After Care and a fee of R50 will be charged by the After Care teachers to look after your child. This is due on the day of late pick-up.
Please be advised that some of your precious children are being transported in vehicles that are overloaded. The agreement is between you and the drivers, so please check with your children and make sure that they are getting to school and home again safely.
A request to you and the transport drivers to respect the one –way road through the property and to drive at a very slow speed.

Grade 8 VSSB Open Day

The Grade Seven Pupils will be visiting VSSB on Friday 17 February for their Open day. The Parents are invited to visit at 9h00 on Saturday 18 February. Vuleka SSB address:
7 June Street, Boreaux. Opposite the Randburg taxi rank.

Colouring-in Competition

Pupils, sharpen your pencils and get ready for an exciting colouring in competition at Vuleka Northriding!
For only R5-00, you have the opportunity to showcase your skills and maybe win a prize.
There are 4 categories: Grade 0-1, Grade 2-3, Grade 4-5 and Grade 6-7.
Competition is starting this week Friday and running for a limited time only, so don’t be disappointed.

Hearing Screening

The audiology students at Wits have offered their services at no charge to screen all the new pupils and those we feel need the screening. This will be done on Wednesday 15 and 22 February, after which we will receive their feedback.

Black ski pants for girls

Many of the girls love to play hard during the day, so wearing a pair of black ski pants under their skirts assists them to move around more freely without their underwear being exposed.
