Section I: General Information

Position Title: Learner Advocate (Elementary)

Location: West Side Elementary

Classification: Certified

FTE/Contracted Days/Salary: 7:45-3:30; 1.0 FTE; 5 additional days; Per Master Contract with Additional Days at a Per Diem Rate

Immediate Supervisor: Building Level Principals and Curriculum Director

Section II: Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Basic Function:

The Learner Advocate will develop, organize, and implement programs to enhance and support students. Their main assignment will be at West Side Elementary, overseeing TPOT, early childhood assessment measures, and other EC requirements, work with the preschool collaborative partners, facilitate communication with the staff and community, and organize wellness lessons. At all elementary buildings, the LA will implement and facilitate aspects of MTSS, the Family Literacy Program, and volunteer tutors; provide parent resources for social, emotional, and academic support; increase community/parent involvement; and participate in PBIS and Intervention Teams.

Roles and Responsibilities at West Side Elementary:

·  Oversee aspects of Multi­Tiered Systems of Support in collaboration with building principals and the Math and Literacy Coaches, participating on the building level Intervention Team and PBIS Teams.

·  Facilitate TPOT and organize substitutes as necessary to complete TPOT requirements.

·  Complete TPOT and PBIS data entry.

·  Oversee QPPS, QRS, IGDI and Gold Assessment including committee meeting attendance and collaboration with preschool community partners.

·  Facilitate the transitional bridge between early childhood to kindergarten and second to third grade.

·  Assist in early childhood professional development and meeting requirements.

·  Work with Early Childhood Administration and Center on Early Childhood requirements for program evaluation, assessment data, and student services coordinator.

·  Monitor daily student attendance and administers school attendance policies including parent contact.

·  Develop an operational understanding of and coordinates with outside support agencies for children’s services.

·  Maintain early childhood information on District website.

·  Facilitate social and emotional growth with students.

·  Facilitate the health and wellness program.

·  Provide assistance to principal with administrative functions and supervisory duties as assigned.

Roles and Responsibilities Specific to John Cline Elementary:

·  Facilitate social and emotional growth of students.

·  Facilitate whole child wellness classes in grades K-1 at John Cline Elementary with classroom teachers.

·  Oversee the JCE breakfast program.

·  Provide assistance to principal with administrative functions and supervisory duties as assigned.

Roles and Responsibilities EC-4:

·  Oversee aspects of Multi­Tiered Systems of Support in collaboration with building principals and the Math and Literacy Coaches, participating on the building level Intervention Team and PBIS Teams as appropriate.

·  Facilitate the transitional bridge between early childhood to kindergarten and second to third grade.

·  Work collaboratively with the school guidance counselor and building principals to address needs affecting school success/learning.

·  Collaborate with Luther College’s Student Employment Office and the MS Learner Advocate, volunteers, and district teachers to coordinate the Family Literacy Program and after school tutoring.

·  Understand the PLC philosophy and assist in implementing it with fidelity.

·  Organize and implement parent/community involvement opportunities with a focus on increasing student achievement for all students.

·  Collaboration with Instructional Coaches.

·  Monitor daily student attendance and administers school attendance policies including parent contact.

·  Assist staff with behavior management plans for students with chronic discipline problems and/or behavioral issues as requested by teacher.

·  Communicate accurately and timely with students and their families to ensure a positive and open school-family partnership exists.

·  Evaluate student progress including attendance and behavioral data.

·  Coordinate with community partners to build resources.

·  Keep accurate records of student, parent, staff, and community contacts.

·  Assist with the supervision of students as assigned within a building rotation as assigned.

·  Supports a positive, professional school climate while interacting with students, families, staff and community members.

·  Maintain confidentiality when dealing with students, families, staff, and community members.

·  Continue to improve own professional competence through professional development.

·  Participate in staff meetings at both site and district levels as appropriate/requested by administration.

·  Presents to the School Board and Shareholders as requested.

Section III: Requirements and Characteristics

Basic Requirements: 1 year working within DCSD; 3 years of teaching experience

Licensure: BA/BS degree; Master’s degree in job related area is preferred; Valid Iowa teaching license
