Summary / Group presentations present tremendous opportunities to create something much greater than what an individual can normally do. It is always easier and quicker to do things on our own, but most of us will be more effective as part of a team that combines the knowledge and talent of several people. Presentation are the means of communication which can be adapted to various speaking situation and fulfilling basic purposes of giving oral presentations of inform, to persuade and to build good will.
Thus the primary objective of this activity was to build confidence, spirit of team work, delivery skills among students so that they can speak in front of audience and handle their interjections. Whereas, the secondary objective was to analyze the improvement areas for the students so that a proper practical solution could be provided to overcome the flaws in presentations/public speaking.
Students were given a brief presentation on how to make powerful slides and a special lecture was delivered on how to “Avoid the Pitfalls of Bad Slides”. The Students were divided in ten groups, each group having six members and they were given ten minutes to present along with five minutes question and answer round. Students were asked to provide the topic, a team leader was appointed from each team for coordination and a weeks’ time was provided to do the same.
The topics to be selected by student were firstly approved from the CTP coordinator. The Topics were Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), Expediting the world with 4G, India and the reservation system, Project Loon, E-Governance, Women Empowerment, Right to Information, Net Neutrality, Online Marketing, and Flipkart Vs Amazon.
Instructions were given to students regarding formal dress on day of presentation, Quality Power Point presentations & to be creative, interesting, dynamic, engaging, and as accurate as possible. The parameters for evaluation were as Layout/ outline of topic, Content in presentation, Communication skills, Focus on topic, Group coordination, Physical body movement, Address to the questions
After each and every presentation, students were given individual feedback. It turned to be an extremely learning session.
