Mission and Goals

The mission statement of the Douglas County CCI is “Ensure a viable 21st century workforce”. A joint venture between the Douglas County School System, the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce, and West Georgia Technical College, the goal of the CCI is to combine core academics and advanced career/technical education programs thereby encouraging high school students to achieve at a high level and to seamlessly begin their pursuit of post-secondary studies.

Academy at the CCI

We’ve had a great start at the Academy! Students have participated in multiple learning expeditions to bring relevance to the classroom. Our lottery was held in February for the Class of 2020. We had 30 spaces and 196 students to register.

Priority #2- Improve and increase communication among all stakeholders.

·  Evidence:

Monthly Lunch & Learn meetings are held with CCI staff to distribute information and to get input and ideas on pertinent issues along with professional learning activities.

We hosted five Apply to CCI Nights to share information about MOWR and admissions, tour the facility and meet the staff.

We hosted our annual Freshmen Expo for the Class of 2020. Students participated in a scavenger hunt and received a CCI/Class of 2020 T-shirt at the end.

Priority #3- Provide opportunities and information to make students more knowledgeable about the transition from high school to college and career.

·  Evidence:

CCI tours began in October and were held twice a month until January.

Compass Testing began in October and held every Friday.

GeorgiaBEST Activities are completed every nine weeks along with two service projects. Students received a grade every nine weeks for their work.

We hold monthly Perfect Attendance Celebrations with certificates for GeorgiaBEST portfolios.

Charter Contract Goals

Ninety percent (90%) of the students who attend the career academy will receive at least one technical certificate prior to high school graduation.

Our charter renewal was approved by the State Board of Education in November 2015. A ten year charter was granted.

We are in the process of renewing our charter with the Douglas County School System and DOE. Our letter of intent has been approved the school system. We will submit our petition to the school system on May 1st and DOE on August 1st.

CCI Governance Board meets the last Friday of each month at 7:30 am.

Instructional, Programmatic and Structural Information

CCI’s Audio-Video and Film Technology and Graphic Arts high school programs follow the Georgia Performance Standards as provided by DOE, and those teachers have been trained to utilize methods and techniques included in the Learning-Focused Schools instructional model. The following college classes follow curriculum and instructional practices provided by TCSG:

·  Shampoo Tech

·  Welding

·  Early Childhood

All students attending CCI utilize block scheduling and attend multi-age dual enrollment or CTAE courses. We continued to offer Edgenuity courses at CCI for additional high school credit while participating in CCI high school or college programs. Transportation and community service opportunities were offered to all students.

The CCI participated in the Hour of Code on December 10th. Students, teachers and staff participated in coding activities.

CCI held is annual Mock Interview Day on March 25th in conjunction with the Workforce Committee through the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce. 163 students were interviewed by our business community.

Personnel

The Douglas County School System employs six full-time and four part-time employees, including administrators, teachers, and a counselor along with support personnel. West Georgia Technical College currently employs 10 full-time instructors and 1 adjunct instructor.

For the 2016-2017 school year, we were able to hire three teachers (science, world language, and social studies) for the Academy. The CCI Assistant Principal will be a full-time position.

Financial Information (Include FTE, fund raising, donations, etc.)

Scholarship opportunities made available to students this year:

·  The Nora McDonald Scholarship, established in memory of the first CCI office manager, will give $250 to four students who will attend college next year in the same program area they have studied at CCI.

Facilities

The CCI building, opened in 2009 and completed in 2010, is located on the WGTC campus and is jointly owned by the school system and the college. The school does not currently incur any lease, rent or mortgage payments. Expenses related to utilities, custodians, and IT support are jointly shared by the college and the school system.

Student Support

In an effort to keep students and parents up to date, Douglas County Schools continues to provide multiple sources of information about the CCI and numerous opportunities to visit the facility and programs:

·  All MOWR students participated in a two-day orientation to the CCI and WGTC. Students learned about the policies and procedures for the CCI. They also received their WGTC Student IDs, WGTC login/email and participated in WGTC Welcome Day.

In addition, our CEO, faculty and staff continue to mentor and work with all students to ensure their success not only while they are at CCI but also in their postsecondary pursuits.

Evaluation

Evaluation of MOWR programs, student success and effective teaching are ongoing at the CCI.

Our charter was approved in July of 2006.
