Production Agreement for Beef and Dairy Producers

I am committed to the humane production of beef and/or dairy cattle which are safe, wholesome, high quality, consistent, and produced in an environmentally soundmanner. To do this, I accept and will teach the following Beef Quality Assurance Program Guidelines and adhere to the National BQA

Certification Requirements (On Back).

Care and Husbandry Practices

◘Cattle management will follow animal care and well-being guidelines that conform to good veterinary and husbandry practices to avoid bruising, stress, or injury.

◘ Regularly evaluate and implement biosecurity practices.

Feedstuffs

◘A quality feed control program will be maintained for all incoming feed ingredients.

◘Ruminant derived protein sources will not be fed.

Feed Additives & Medications

◘Only FDA-approved medicated feed additives will be used in rations.

◘Proper withdrawal time for all additives and pesticide/herbicide use will be observed to avoid violative residues.

Processing/Treatment & Records

◘Extra-label drug use will only be used when prescribed by a veterinarian with a valid veterinarian-client-patient relationship.

◘Records will be maintained for all treatments (individual or group) following BQA suggested record keeping guidelines and will be kept for a minimum of three years.

◘All processing and treatment records will be transferred with the cattle to the next production level.

Injectable Animal Health Products

◘All injections will be administered in the neck region only. This includes both subcutaneous and intramuscular injections.

◘All individual treatments will strictly follow only FDA/USDA/EPA guidelines. Administering products in a method that will cause tissue damage will be avoided.

Producer/Individual Certification

To become a BQA Certified Producer/Individual, the candidate must:

  • General
  • Target audience is non-restrictive, including: Owner, Manager, Employee, Veterinarian, Youth, Tech Service, Allied Industry, etc.
  • Training
  • Attend aBQA training session that addresses BQAprogram material including the National BQA Program Guidelines and BQA BMPs
  • Examination
  • Successfully complete and pass anassessmentcovering BQAprogram material including the National BQA Program Guidelines and BQA BMPs
  • The assessment must include content from each area from the National BQA Guidelines
  • The assessment is open-book and the candidate must score of 85% or greater to pass
  • Certification
  • BQA Certification is good for three years based on the training date
  • Successful candidates will be issued a BQA Certificate/Card as a record of their successful program and assessment completion
  • Training/certification records will be kept on file by the individual candidate’s state organization
  • Other Considerations:
  • National BQA training may be made available via the Internet (live web-conference, distance learning, etc.)
  • Production Agreement
  • The individual candidate agrees to follow National BQA Guidelines
  • Recertification
  • The individual candidate must retake the approved exam or state approved audit or Continuing Education Unit approved by the state program and resign the production agreement every three years.
