First Year Student Committee Member Application

Application Process

Student Activities Board has reserved a limited amount of positions for incoming first year students (freshmen or transfer) that have enrolled at Arkansas State University since June 2015. The completed application should be submitted to the Leadership Center, Suite 2067 on the 2nd floor of the Reng Student Union no later than 4:00p on Wednesday, September 9, 2015. ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

Student Activities Board is comprised of seven student directors which are selected every spring semester to serve fromMay 2015– May 2016. Directors are responsible for the research, planning, and implementation of both educational and entertainment events for the A-State student body. Each Director has a committee consisting of committee members that assist with the research, planning, and facilitation of events throughout the academic school year. It is important that committee members are dedicated to attending bi-monthly meetings and SAB events. Approximately 10 individuals will be selected for each committee.

Academic Standards (for all SAB Director Positions)

  • Enrolled at Arkansas State University as a full time student
  • Minimum Cumulative 2.5 GPA
  • Maintain good standing with the University & may not be on disciplinary probation

Job Tasks/Expectations (for all committee member positions)

  • Attend individual committee member meetings, as scheduled, throughout the semester by SAB Director
  • Work closely with SAB Advisor and Directors
  • Ability to represent the University, SAB, & yourself well
  • Have good communication skills (written and oral)
  • Creative & organizational skills
  • Assist with the research, planning, and implementation of SAB committee events
  • Be on time for all meetings and events
  • Committee members may have a total of three absences for the duration of the 2015-2016 position. If a committee member receives more than three absences, removal from the SAB board will occur.

Committee Member Fall Date Requirements:

  • Attend Mandatory meeting and training on Monday, September 14, 2015, from 5:00p -6:30p.
  • Failure to attend this meeting will prevent the student from continuing in the position of committee member with Student Activities Board.
  • Attend bi-monthly general body meetings from 5 p.m.– 6 p.m. as scheduled below:
  • September 21, October 5, October 19, November 9, and November 30

SAB Fall Scheduled Events:

  • September 10 – Order of the Pack
  • September 28 – October 3 - Homecoming
  • October 22 – High School Leadership Day

(*Special Events date is not scheduled)

Committee Member Spring Date Requirements

  • Spring meetings will occur bi-monthly on Wednesday’s from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. & committee members will be notified of exact dates by November 2015.If you are not able to attend the bi-monthly meetings in the Spring semester, members will not be allowed to continue on the committee.
  • Committee Members will be provided spring event dates by November and will need to follow the same attendance policy as fall semester.
  • Spring Semester Events include, but are not limited to: A-State Pride Day (basketball spirit event), Mardi Gras, Springfest, Day at the Park (baseball spirit event), and Special Events program.

Committee Descriptions

Reng Student Union Events

  • Presents a large scale program in the fall for area high school students (High School Leadership Conference)
  • Coordinate and implement the annual Mardi Gras Celebration in the spring

Marketing Director

  • Assists with the distribution of all marketing materials
  • Assists with SAB marketing on all individual social media outlets, through word of mouth, etc
  • Assistsmarketing director to creatively think of “out of the box” marketing ideas for each event
  • Assists marketing director with painting of Acansa Windows to advertise programs
  • Attends a variety of SAB hosted events to market the events during the events (update social media throughout the event, take video, etc.)
Director of Homecoming & Springfest
  • Assists with the planning and implementation of Homecoming during the fall semester and Springfest during the spring semester
  • Recognize the wide array of tastes at A-State and thusly provide a diversified program that will appeal to as many students as possible
Co - Directors of Spirit Club
  • Assists with the planning and implementation of Order of the Pack in the fall semester and A-State Pride Day in the spring semester
  • Assists with planning and coordinate tailgating event for Day at the Park for baseball
  • Promote pride and school spirit in one’s self and one’s school
  • Assists with the A-State Spirit Flag at home football games (assigned games are provided)
  • Decorate the Reng Student Union for athletic events on game day or Friday before at 8a and take down decorations at end of the day.

Special Events Director

  • Assist with planning and implementation of a minimum of one small or large scale event each semester that can be broader in nature
  • These events can be both entertaining and educational in nature. For example: Coffee house, movie night, Issues & Awareness Speaker, stress reliever event during finals, etc.
