Nature and Purpose of Agency
SBP is a national disaster relief organization that aims to shrink the time between disaster and recovery.After a disaster, homeowners need recovery to be as prompt and predictable as possible in order to limit the amount of time they’re made to suffer the effects of displacement. SBP rebuilds for low-to-moderate income homeowners, placing a special focus on families with small children, the elderly, disabled persons, war veterans and the under-and uninsured. Volunteering with SBP will help in our mission of bringing every family back to a safe and stable living environment.
Tasks Available for Students
Helping in the various stages of construction for these homes including but not limited to: drywall, taping, painting, and mudding. Site supervisors will guide you through all aspects of the day’s construction project.
Time Requirements
Half-day or full day building programs Monday through Saturday are available.
Student Awareness/Special Instructions
Please dress appropriately for doing construction work. Wear clothes that you can get dirty from lifting, painting, etc. Closed toed shoes and long pants are suggested.

Driving Directions
From St. John’s University, head south on Utopia Pkwy.Turn right onto Grand Central Pkwy. Use any lane to turn left onto Main St. Use the left two lanes to take the ramp to Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. Keep left at the fork, follow signs for Interstate 678 S/Van Wyck Expressway/ Kennedy Airport and merge onto I-678 S. Take Exit 1W toward Belt Pkwy W. Use the left lane to turn slightly right onto N Conduit Ave. Turn left onto the Belt Pkwy W ramp to Verrazano Bridge. Merge onto Belt Pkwy. Take Exit 17S from Cross Bay Blvd S toward Rockaways. Merge onto Cross Bay Blvd. Keep left to continue on Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge/ NYS Reference Rte 900J/ NYS Reference Rte 907J. Keep left to continue on Cross Bay Pkwy. Turn left at the 1st cross street onto Joseph Alcamo Blvd/ Rockaway Beach Blvd. Turn left onto Beach 88th St. Destination will be on left 2-13 Beach 88th Street.
