Our community garden will be partnering with the Elaney Wood Heritage Farmers Market to enhance food resources at the Greene County Interfaith Food Bank. In addition, the garden will a help to address the lack of fruits and vegetable consumption while providing a tool for promoting physical and emotional health, connecting with nature, teaching life skill and promoting food security. Needs for the community garden include: garden materials and supplies to develop the garden. Lessons that will be learned in the community garden will be water conservation, water quality preservation, environmental stewardship, sustainable land use, and environmental health. Teamwork will be essentially important in the garden project and will bring together a community of people that will focus on sharing the love of gardening and giving back to the community. Raised beds will offer a senior friendly work atmosphere.

How do you plan to create a garden that will have a long and vibrant role in the community? Max of 2000 characters including spaces

The community garden will serve as a catalyst to give back to the community and to educate gardeners about horticulture education. In additon, the community garden will be located on the north side of the farmers market which will complement the goals of the farmers market. Heart disease and cancer are the two leading causes of death in Greene County. Educational workshops promoting prevention of heart disease, cancer and diabetes will become one of the tools in which

will help to create community healthcare advocacy. Greene County is limited in the healthy food

choices available in restaurants, The community garden will serve to promote healthy eating and provide avenues for all county residents to learn how to make healthy choices when purchasing fresh, local produce. Children and adults will have the opportunity to work together to promote

intergenerational gardening.
