Annual Report 2013-2014
Our Mission: As Jesus has called us to care, the Health Ministry is committed to a healing mission that integrates faith and health by promoting wholeness of body, mind and spirit.
Our Goals and Objectives:
· Minister to the health needs of our congregation and community
· Provide health education and resources to promote wellness and manage chronic health problems
· Assess and implement ways to reach out to individuals in need within our congregation and residents living in our community
· Collaborate to implement projects with seniors in independent, assisted living and/or long term care facilities
· Explore ways to provide health education for pre-school and school aged children
· Maintain the Health Ministry/Parish Nurse office as a gathering place for support, counseling, blood pressure screenings and prayer and as a resource center for health and wellness
· Interface with other organizations and churches to combine efforts in meeting health needs
Our Projects for 2013: (last 6 months)
· Healing Services
· Annual Health Fair in October
· Blood pressure screenings monthly and as needed
· Telephone calls and visitations to members in need
· Display of “Care Notes” for congregation members and visitors
· Germanna Heights Senior Apartments monthly project; bingo, prizes, luncheons and Thanksgiving dinner
· Participation in weekly lunch gatherings
· Counseling/resource service in the Health Ministry office
· Collaboration with health organizations and churches to promote health initiatives
· Sponsorship of American Red Cross Blood drives
· Nurse coverage for Vacation Bible School
· Donation of $1,000 to the church for the Water hook-up
· Sponsorship of coffee hour for the congregation
· Basket of health products for Bazaar raffle
Our Witness and Service in 2014:
· Plan and hold quarterly Healing Services
· Staff monthly Blood Pressure screenings
· Plan for Annual Health Fair scheduled in October
· Purchase and display “Care Notes” in the narthex
· Sponsor the American Red Cross Blood Drive quarterly
· Explore options for additional Signage for health ministry events
· Provide Nurse coverage for Vacation Bible School
· Staff Health Ministry office on Wednesdays
· Contact and schedule visitation and support for congregational members in need
· Submit health related articles for the Newsletter and/or provide presentations on health related topics
· Continue monthly sponsorship of activities at Germanna Heights Senior Apartments
· CPR/AED Workshop and explore First Aid Workshop for the congregation
· Update First Aid and Health Assessment equipment
· Encourage participation in a Walking program (e.g. Alzheimer’s)
· Sponsor coffee hour
· Explore ways to provide health education for preschool children.
