Our mission is to provide individuals and families who are in need with food and access to a network of community resources that helps them achieve self-sufficiency
2013 SERVICE STATISTICS
· 5300 different households visited us a total of 54,000 times for supplemental groceries.
· We distributed approximately 2.2 million pounds of food.
· Our customers served each week are 2% infants, 14% children, 59% adults and 25% seniors
· We distribute food based on daily nutritional requirements through a unique set-up similar to a grocery store. This ensures families are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
· Our service area is Northeast Seattle; we serve zip codes 98102, 98103, 98105, 98112, 98115, 98125
· We were open 230 days last year, more than most other Seattle food banks
· Our weekly home delivery program serves 40 homebound households each week
· Our weekly Packs for Kids program at six nearby schools distributed 5,600 food bags to kids at risk of hunger over the weekend
SUPPORT & EXPENDITURES
· 75% of the food we distribute is donated.
· Our primary suppliers are Food Lifeline and Northwest Harvest. We’re also supported by local businesses and pick-up from QFC (University Village, Wedgwood & Broadway Market), Safeway (University District & Wedgwood), Trader Joe’s, PCC View Ridge, Whole Foods, University District Farmers Market, Starbucks, Trophy Cupcake, Fred Meyer, Essential Bakery, Grateful Bread, Boulevard Grocery, Pasta & Co., Crisp Harvest Market, and Madison Park Bakery.
· Individuals are our largest financial supporters. They donated over 60% of our operating funds through direct contributions, newsletter gifts, fundraising events and payroll deduction. Other support came from city/state government (15%), local churches (10%) and foundations (10%).
· Our current year budget is $575,000 with over $150,000 allocated for food purchases.
STAFF
· We have five paid staff, three full-time and two part-time, plus two year-long service volunteers.
· 80-90 active weekly volunteers donated 18,632 hours of service in 2013.
OVERSIGHT
· Our Board of Directors is 12-18 community members who serve at most three, two-year terms.
· The Board is responsible for our large fundraisers including the Take a Bite Out of Hunger Benefit Auction, a booth at the University District Street Fair, and a winter benefit dinner at Greenlake Bar & Grill, Eastlake Bar & Grill and Lake Forest Park Bar & Grill.
· The Board meets on the third Tuesday of the month at the University Presbyterian Church.

· We are active in the following coalitions/organizations: Seattle Food Committee, Washington Food Coalition, Seattle Human Services Coalition, University District Partnership, Anti-Hunger and Nutrition Coalition, and Food Resource Network Federation
