2013-2014

Vocal Music will be held at Spalding Academy the last period of the day .

Uniform: Each student will be responsible for having a uniform that will cost them around $100.00. Wewill be purchasing new uniforms this year as we have had the others three years. The ladies will have a different dress and the men may change their vest and shirt? We will be deciding the first weeks of school. Besides the outfit we purchased, the guys will still need their black pants and black shoes(non tennis shoe) and girls will need black sandal or close toed shoe ( no flip flops). We will hopefully commit to an outfit before Labor Day. If this outfit is an expense that won't allow your son/daughter to participate please speak with me and we will see what can be done confidentially.

Activities: Fall Musical , Albion Choral Clinic, Musicfest, Monthly Volunteer Work, Contests and Concerts.

Daily Grading- GRADING WILL BE POSTED ON ENGRADE AND IT WILL BE YOUR RESPONSILITY TO CHECK THAT AS NEEDED. THIS SAVES ALOT OF WASTED PAPER. PLEASE CONTACT ME VIA ENGRADE OR MY EMAIL IF QUESTIONS, THIS IS GENERALLY THE QUICKEST AND EASIEST.

1-5 points can be earned each day in class based on attitude, effort, participation and attendance. Students may also grade themselves based on the form for how they have participated daily.

Performance Grading - 50 points may be earned each time there is a concert or musical performance.

Evening Rehearsals - worth 20 points each

Albion Choral & Music Contest Grading - 50 points for each event.

Responsibility & Volunteer Effort - 25 points per month. This may include preparing for musicals, preparing for programs, working at charity events, special programs, or in the choir at an organized service or program. This needs to be done within the month for each months 25 points and PRE-excused! *** Each student only gets to have TWO makeups of this volunteer otherwise just take the loss points if they miss the event we are volunteering for. ***

**** Students will have evening rehearsals before the Fall Musicaland also before the Spring musical/musicfest. These will be required if they are participating in the ensemble that is rehearsing that evening!! Missing more than one of those rehearsals will make them NON ELIGIBLE for the music review, musical or Musicfest. It will be up to the student to be responsible to check there schedules out and to communicate with their parents. Mrs. Thome will have everything posted on line and will also text those students with cell phones as needed for reminders. They will receive their MUSICAL schedule on the first day of class. I am trying a new texting service called Remind 101 and I will put all the students on that service where they will get the text but cannot respond to it as it will be sent via my computer!

Conf. & District Contest - be involved in a solo, small groups and large groups all based on a point system. If choose not to be involved in these groups will be working on a music project, which will be a choir tour again.

Cell phone policy: Due to the rehearsals atmosphere of my classroom, or at any rehearsals, and the number of students in the room, there will be a zero tolerance of cell phones or electronic devices usage unless Mrs. Thome has given permission to use this. I understand the importance of these when needed but will never be needed to be on in my room during class time, unless permission. If negligent of this I will keep them for ONE WEEK from offense!!!

Absentees and Tardees: Tardees will be dealt with daily, and more than 10 absentees per semester will result in no credit for that semester of work.. ANY student not preexcused from my class as the handbooks state will be considered absent for that day. It will be up to each student to let me know the day in advanced if this is a preexcused event. (Just like if they had a job they'd let their boss know in advance that they will be late or not at work the next day). This includes ballgames, doc appts., dentist appts., chiropractor, school events or whatever comes up during the year. Chorus is a large class so communication is a must for liability or accountability so I know where each student is and I'm not needing to track down students after class starts. I will take emails or blogs also!!!

2013-2014 reminders: This class is a 2 semester class and every student signing up will be required to attend both semesters. Also this is a Knights class and there will be days that one school may have school and the other not. If we are in need of a class that day due to some activity coming up students will be asked to be there. I will be very careful on this request, and let them know in advance so they can check their schedules. Most of the time the student will be heading to sports right after so I feel that this will be a doable request. If this class was earlier in the day and they would not be heading to another activity right away I would not request this option. This year the schedule is pretty close for both schools so that is a plus!!!

Lettering: Participate in all concerts and contests: (*Excused absences will be accepted under some circumstances such as a serious illness or death in the family), average 90% or better for grade, and participate in both semesters of class.

Special events such as trips (other than contest), privileges and Musicfest will only be given to those with a 90% or better, this will be evaluated every 9 weeks or semester per choice of Mrs. Thome.

MY WEBSITE: WILL HAVE IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS, PICTURES OR CHANGES ON IT. PLEASE LOG INTO IT OFTEN TO FIND INFORMATION !!!!

Parents return form: Return this form by Thurs. Aug. 29th signed. I will send you out the uniform information before Labor day weekend. OR EMAIL THIS form COMPLETEDto .

I have read this syllabus for Chorus and I have understood these most important areas:

______Grading which will effect my students eligibility special privileges listed above. Grading will be posted on ENGRADE and it is my responsibility to check that out regularly.

______Absentees and tardees which will effect my students grade.

Ten or more absentees in this class a semester result in no credit for this class.

______I saw the schedule for our events for the year and My son/daughter has cleared their work schedules and doc appts.

______Uniform information for all members

______It is my responsibility to check the website often for current information and schedules.

______Only one absence is allowed from evening rehearsals before I will not be allowed to participate in the Fall Performance or the Spring Performance!

______I understand with the size of the class and the number of students rehearsing in several areas that cell phones, or other electronics will never be turned on in the classroom, or at a rehearsal unless given permission in advance. Mrs. Thome will take them for one week from the offense!!!

**** We have discussed the possible spring Music Trip and at this point my son/daughter will/won’t be attending. The first deposit will be due Oct 1st of $150.00
