Notice of Race
International 14 Class North American Championship
Newport, RI
July 23-25, 2010
- Rules
The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.
- Entries
- The regatta is open to all boats of the International 14 class.
- Yachts may enter by filling out the registration form available at Sail Newport or by pre-registering online ( Registration at Sail Newport will be open on Friday, July 23, from 0900 to 1130. Skipper’s meeting will be held on Friday, July 23, at 1130.
- Fees
The registration fee may be paid at boat check-in on July 23.
- Schedule of Races
- Friday, July 23 will be the I-14 North Americans distance race, with the start at 1400. Race course details will be available with the sailing instructions at boat check-in. Course choice will depend on wind direction and tide on the day of the race.
- The first start on July 24 and 25 will be at 1100. The race committee reserves the right to change this time should conditions require an earlier or later start time. No more than 7 races will be run each day.
- On the last day of racing no warning signal shall be made after 1600.
- Sailing Instructions
The Sailing Instructions will be available at boat check-in.
- Racing Area
The chart below shows the racing areas in the East Passage of Narragansett Bay.
- The Courses
The courses to be sailed will be a triangle-windward-leeward (finish downwind) course (“T”), a triangle-windward-leeward-windward-leeward (finish downwind) course (“T2”), or a triangle-windward-leeward-windward-leeward-windward (finish upwind) course (“T3”).
- Penalty System
Rule 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced with the One-Turn Penalty.
- Scoring
- The scoring system will be Appendix A, Low Point.
- 1 race is required to be completed to constitute a series.
- Throwouts: When fewer than 5 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores. When from 6 to 14 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
- Prizes
Prizes will be awarded to the top three overall finishers in the I-14 North American Distance Race (July 23) and to the three top overall finishers in the North American Championship (July 24-25).
- Liability
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
- Insurance
Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum coverage of $500,000 per event or the equivalent.
