Course Requirements

Grading

The course grade will be determined as follows:

Written assignments and quizzes50%

Keyboard assignments25%

Final exam (written and keyboard)25%

In order to proceed to Music 274 (Theory IV), you must achieve an overall grade of at least C- in this courseand a passing grade in the Keyboard section of the course.

Assignments and Attendance

Written assignments are due at the beginning of class on the dates indicated in the syllabus. Each late written assignmentwill be marked down by one letter grade (A to B, B to C, etc.) for each class periodit is late, unless the lateness results from an excused absence. Since assignments are due at the beginning of each period, any unexcused absence will have a negative effect on your overall grade.

Written quizzes may be given, announced or unannounced, at the beginning of any class period. If you miss a quiz as a result of an unexcused absence, you will receive zero credit for that quiz.

Most keyboard assignments will be graded in class on the due dates; a few may be performed and graded during individual appointments with me. Late keyboard assignments will not be accepted and will receive zero credit.

Attendance has a direct bearing on your overall grade. Please notify me of anticipated absences as far in advance as possible.

Academic Honesty

I expect your written work to be exactly that: your original work. It is not acceptable for you to copy another person’s work, or to have another person do your work for you. Violations of this policy will be dealt with severely.

Classroom Policies

Please be prompt and do not disrupt class by arriving late or leaving early. Please make sure all cellular phones, pagers, and other similar devices are turned off before class begins.
