Meeting Summary:
The meeting was called to order, and all participants were asked to send an email to the Chair and Vice Chair for the participation record.
Joseph Cramer, Chair, “volunteered” to take the minutes.
The meeting approved the Agenda (IWG-1/025r1 (08.31.17)).
The meeting discussed what happened regarding issues under IWG-1’s purview at the international meetings held since the previous IWG-1 meeting. Updates from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Frequency Spectrum Management Panel (FSMP) and African Telecommunications Union meetings were provided.
The meeting discussed two proposals regarding Agenda Item 1.8 (See Doc. IWG-1/026r1 and Doc. IWG-1/029). A very brief synopsis of the discussions are provided:
· Agenda Item 1.8 on GMDSS (Res. 359): Questions were asked regarding the regulatory treatment of the GMDSS system vis-a-vis in band and adjacent band systems; and how the proposals modifying Article 5 and Appendix 15 of the ITU-R radio regulation could be modified. Several editorial comments were also provided, applicable to both documents.
· It was decided that additional offline discussions should take place amongst interested parties, and that one more IWG-1 meeting will be held prior to the upcoming WRC Advisory Committee meeting scheduled for October 30, 2017.
Future Meetings: The next meeting will occur on October 4, 2017 at 9-11am eastern via teleconference.
