MINUTES OF CSU STAFF COUNCIL MEETING

I. ATTENDANCE

Members Present: Lacey Allmond, Jackie Carter, Stephanie Coker, Brynn Dillon, Birgit Gatlin, Jessie Hudson, Angela Johnson, Crystal Jones, Laurie Jones, Simone Jones, Debby Mayo, Bernard McCrary, Christine Murphey, Emmanuel Sarris, Libby Smith, Liza Smith, Rita Snell, Eddie Woodhouse

Excused Absences: Patti Brooks, Rebecca Hunter, Stephanie Press

II. CALL TO ORDER

Brynn Dillon called the meeting to order at 10:05 AM. The May 1st, 2008 minutes were accepted as submitted.

III. FINANCIAL REPORT

Foundation fund: $ 1,663.25

Book Scholarship: $ 829.60

IV. COMMITTEE REPORTS

A.  WELCOME COMMITTEE

L. Jones advised members that there will be a small new employee welcome in July.

B. STAFF DEVELOPMENT AND SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE

No report.

C. ELECTIONS COMMITTEE

Elections were held today and are as follows:

-  Chair: Lacey Allmond

-  Chair Elect: Liza Smith

-  Secretary: Christine Murphey

-  Assistant Secretary: Crystal Jones

-  Treasurer: Jessie Hudson

Welcome Committee – Laurie Jones will continue as chair of this committee.

Staff Development and Scholarship Committee – Bernard McCrary will chair this committee.

Department Appreciation Committee – Simone Jones will chair this committee.

Fund Raising Committee – Debbie Mayo will chair this committee.

Staff Service Award Committee – Laurie Jones will continue to chair this committee.

Environmental Committee – Emmanuel Sarris will continue to chair this committee.

D. DEPARTMENT APPRECIATION COMMITTEE

Brynn Dillon thanked everyone involved with the last staff appreciation. It was well received.

E. FUND RAISING COMMITTEE

No report.

F. STAFF SERVICE AWARD COMMITTEE

Laurie Jones reported that the selection has been made for the employee of the year. The committee is still working on the nominations for the first quarter award.

G. ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITTEE

Meni Sarris advised members to set printer settings to double-sided and to print PDF files in “book-mode.” He mentioned that one statistic shows that 35 lbs out of 100 lbs trash is paper. Eddie Woodhouse reported that CSU has received an award for “going green” efforts. He also reported that CSU is inquiring about pricing of multiple recycling bins. He is checking if CSU can work it out that the city is picking up recycling materials.

V. OLD BUSINESS

A.  Gift for Dr. Brown

Brynn Dillon presented the blanket to the group that she will be giving to Dr. Brown from Staff Council during the June 17th celebration.

VI. NEW BUSINESS

A.  Staff Appreciation

Staff appreciation will be on May 20th, 2008, at the clock tower from 2 – 4 pm. Popcorn and sodas will be served. Brynn will send an email asking for volunteers.

VII. ANNOUNCEMENTS

Stephanie Coker announced that she has resigned from Staff Council.

Brynn Dillon announced that Tara Romito has resigned from Staff Council.

Brynn also announced that the state-wide staff council meeting is coming up on June 19th at Atlanta Metro. She asked newly elected executive committee members to email her if they would like to go to this meeting.

Meni Sarris announced that Active8 is going really well, so much so that 35 classes have a waitlist. He also reminded members that the catalog for the adult activities is coming out soon for fall and to take advantage of the $75 discount that CSU employees receive.

Brynn asked members to email her with any questions that she should present at the next board meeting in June.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:55 am.
