2.  Pepsi Bottling Company Recycling Project Charter

Project Purpose

The intention of this recycling and solid waste minimization project is to completely rework the recycling station layout of the Pepsi bottling facility in Denver, Colorado. We will work to increase recycling rates and revenue from recycling, educate the Pepsi workforce on better recycling practices, and create a set of BMP’s for the physical layout of recycling stations.

Project Scope

The scope of this project is to come up with any possible solutions that can reduce waste and increase the recycling rate of the Pepsi bottling Facility in Denver Colorado. Our main goal will be to increase the rate of recycling in the facility with a project minimum of 90% recycling and ultimate goal of 100% recycling or zero waste. Our scope will also include developing relationships with potential recyclers and creating new methods of recycling for the facility.

The scope of this recycling project will also include:

·  Quick Wins – Solutions that require little or no capital

·  Communications with waste and recycling vendors

·  Communications with Pepsi’s Recycling broker, Allegiant Global

·  Improvements requiring a large capital investment

·  Increase recycling credits

·  Seeking out new recycling credits

2.4  Communications Plan

Group communications

Plan to meet as a group firstly weekly within scheduled class times but also within set group meetings. These meetings will be structured with predetermined ideas to be discussed. At each meeting minutes will also be taken to keep a record of what was said and by whom. Within meetings everyone will be allowed to voice their opinions on all matters and attendance will be mandatory. In major discussions where a decision cannot be reached then a vote will be held in which the majority will rule. If a majority cannot be reached then other options will be investigated until the issue is resolved.

Outside of meetings communications will be maintained through many means, primarily through the use of phones (either texts or calls) and via Email. Phones will be used for a more instant form of contact and wherever possible calls or meetings will be set up so things can be discussed in greater detail. Wherever the exchange of documents is necessary or a more official form of contact is needed Email will be used due to the benefits these hold.

Communication with Pepsi

The main point of contact at Pepsi is Sean Crowell who is the process compliance manager. The group is planning on visiting the facility and meeting with Sean once every two weeks. During the meetings, we will discuss ideas and progress with regards to his ideas and the ideas that we have generated. Contact will also be maintained via e-mail and phone as necessary.

Communication with Hitachi Consultant

The Hitachi consultant assigned to the group is Matthew Conner, who is currently spending a lot of time in London (UK) and therefore face to face meetings will prove difficult at this time. While he is away the group will hold meetings with him, every two weeks, via a video conference and constant contact will be maintained via e-mail. Matthew will be returning to the US on October 10, 2010 and will be available for face to face meetings on the subsequent meeting dates.
