CHEMISTRY/BIOLOGY LANGUAGE IN THE LAB
THE BEGINNING OF THE LAB TEST – INTRODUCTION
Good morning everybody!
Who is absent today?
I think we can start now and get down to work.
Make groups of four/five
Put on the lab coat
You need to wear gloves and goggles for this experiment/lab test.
Put on gloves and goggles

SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SESSION
Always keep the work surface clean and tidy.
Before beginning the experiment read through the following directions carefully.
Keep a clear and concise record of the laboratory work.
INSTRUCTIONS DURING THE LAB TEST – CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
Put…..into….
Put…….into a test tube/ a Petri dish/a watch glass
Pour……into….
Add….
Fill the……with……..using a funnel
Put a pinch of….
Put a tiny drop of Methylene blue on….
Place…..on….
Place…..on a slide
Place the…..on a slide and cover it with a cover slip.
Place the slide on the microscope stage and cover it with a cover slip.
Switch on the balance and place the Petri dish on the balance plan, press the button to calibrate the balance and have 0,00 on its display.

Seize the test tube using the crucible tongs.
Hold the test tube with a (wooden) clamp
Seize….. with a (wooden) clamp
Don’t touch….
Make sure that….
Prepare the boiling bain-marie placing a 250 cc beaker on a hot plate.
Heat the 250 cc beaker filled with 100 cc of water to the boiling point in order to melt the compound.
While heating it, observe the reaction of the compound.
Allow to stand for about 1 minute in the heated bath.
Cool the test tube in cold water
Cut a piece of filter paper into rectangular strips.
Use a binder clip or a peg to attach the paper strips in order to keep them hanging in the beakers. (Chromatography)
Rub the plastic straw against cloth to charge it electrically
Observe…..with the stereomicroscope
Observe…..with the optical microscope
Observe the sample by a …..X magnification.
Observe, compare and note down about changes.
The substances in the mixtures are very common and are easily available in the kitchens of our houses.
One of the homogeneous mixtures is found in its constituents in nature, so we did not have to prepare it before the lab experiment.
One of the substances can be easily identified, during the evaporation of the liquid constituent, by smelling.
Wait for cooling it off/evaporating
Let the gas in the liquid gurgle
Observe the chemical reaction
Don’t place the hot beakers directly on the workbench, since they might break and crack!
Repeat the experiment
Put a spatula spoon…into
Dispose of unneeded or unusable chemical wastes in the proper waste containers.
Don’t put the remains of the products you haven’t used into their original containers again
Throw plastic, glass and paper into the proper waste containers.
Throw all the other waste into the containers you can find under each counter.
DISCUSSION
What can you observe?
Make hypotheses taking into consideration that…….
What has happened in this phase?
What hypotheses can you make, on the basis of the chemical reactions described above/you are observing? What new substance forms in the flask?
While observing and analyzing the results of this experiment, answer the following questions.
CONCLUSIONS
Fill in the table/the form with the test results.
Fill in the chart with the test results.
From this lab experiment we/you have found out…..
Write the lab report.
