Job Purpose:
Manage highly specialised clinical consultations in the field of speech and language therapy, cochlear implant provision and support, having professional responsibility for patient management and outcomes, under the supervision of the rehabilitation coordinator and Team Lead.
Key Accountabilities/Primary Responsibilities:
  • Perform specialised professional assessments of patients under the care of the University of Southampton Auditory Implant Service
  • Devise and negotiate appropriate treatment/habilitation/education plans for patients and their families (under guidance of the Rehabilitation coordinator and Team Lead), ensuring individual needs are met.
  • Communicate the results of the assessments within the team, to the referring agency, patients and local professionals
  • Application of procedures for auditing outcomes in children and adults
  • Support training events for local professionals and families as part of AIS team
  • Support the research activities of the Auditory Implant Service and apply research evidence and knowledge to ensure best practice.
  • Support teaching activities of the service as required

Internal & External Relationships:
  • Responsible via Team Lead to the Director of USAIS and then to Associate Dean for Enterprise
  • Multi professional working on and off site including operating theatres, schools and patients’ homes.
  • Report findings with due professional confidence to relevant agencies and referring consultants.

Special Requirements:
To be available to work outside the University for home & school visits and to support outreach activities. To attend national and international conferences to learn and disseminate research findings and practice.
Maintain registration with relevant professional body and submit to CPD checks as required.
