Hours of Work

The hours of work for this post will not exceed 36 hours per week.

Salary

This post has been evaluated on MS-OUTERScale, Point P this currently equates to £63,315.00 per annuminclusive of London Weighting

Salaries are paid monthly on the 25th of every month or the last working day prior to the 25th if the 25th falls on a weekend or bank holiday. The only exception to this is for the December payment, which will be on an earlier date that will be notified to you on an annual basis. Payment will be made direct into a bank/building society account. You will need to provide details of your branch, account number and sort code before payment can be made to you.

Annual Leave

The Annual Leave entitlement will be 35 Days per annum and all Bank and Public Holidays normally observed in England and Wales. The College also shuts for an additional 5 efficiency closure days plus 3 statutory days which the Principal will set at the beginning of the academic year. Although every effort will be made to meet requests for Annual Leave, service demands will take preference. All leave is subject to an efficient service being maintained and specific restrictions may apply.

Pension Scheme – Local Government Pension Scheme

If you are aged between 16 and 65 years old you are eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme. Contributions vary depending on your annual salary, before tax is deducted; the College also makes a contribution to the scheme. All eligible employees will have to elect to be brought into the Scheme, and a contribution, dependent on full time equivalent annual salary, is deducted from salary prior to tax. Additional voluntary contributions can be arranged via AVCs or Added Years. Applicants must make a decision whether to contribute or not - deductions will be made automatically if no election is made. You may only apply for a refund within the first three months of employment.

Probationary Period

Appointment will be subject to a probationary period of six months in the first instance.

Staff Development

As part of the Contract of Employment, all appointees will be required to attend staff development events and take part in the College’s appraisal scheme.

SUMMARY OF POST

Reporting to the Vice Principal Curriculum and Quality, the Director is responsible for the effective leadership and development of all aspects of quality assurance and teaching and learning development, improvement and transformation. The Director is responsible for setting, implementing and monitoring the College English and maths framework for 16-18 year olds, adults and apprentices.

Be responsible for the strategic development of teaching, learning and assessment strategies including embedding of equality and diversity and e-Learning across the curriculum, and the leadership of all College processes relating to quality improvement, self-assessment and review and continuous improvement, in particular as they relate to transforming the learning experience of learners, staff and customers within the College.

The primary responsibility of the post holder is to oversee and develop the Quality and Standards across the whole organisation. The role will be a member of the SLT and meet our strategic vision of becoming an outstanding College and in doing so, the post holder will work closely with the Curriculum Directors, Director of Apprentices and Business Support Directors. The Director is responsible for fostering an ethos of continuous improvement across the whole organisation with a very clear focus on:

  • Meeting the College’s ambition to become an outstanding college.
  • Work with the Executive Team to ensure that the College is an inspirational institution which sets the highest standards through the ethos of continuous quality improvement.
  • Raising the College’s success rates and teaching and learning performance to meet Ofsted outstanding criteria and the strategic plan success measures.
  • Providing leadership in ensuring the College meets external quality standards and is involved in improvement initiatives with external partners, sharing and learning from exemplary practices nationally.
  • Working with Curriculum Directors and the Director of Apprentices to ensure that subject sectors set and deliver the highest standards to students and employers.
  • Create and sustain a culture of curriculum excellence, innovation and delivery that provides for exceptional teaching and learning across the College.

Main duties, key tasks and responsibilities to:
  • Manage, direct and set targets and working practices of the Quality and EEP Manager; Learning Innovation Manager; Technologies Learning Manage; Head of Higher Level Skills; Head of English and Maths: 16-18; Head of English and Maths: Adults; Head of English and Maths: Apprentices.
  • Lead the development and implementation of quality improvement and pedagogic strategies across the College.
  • Lead and manage the development of e-Learning in order to maximise the potential of e-Learning across the curriculum exploiting the potential of Moodle and blended learning strategies
  • Work with the Head of Human Resources to actively ensure training needs are met for staff working across the College’s FE, HE and Apprentice provision.
  • Work closely with the Director Apprenticeships to ensure the effective and timely implementation of the quality assurance and quality improvement framework for apprenticeship provision.
  • Work collaboratively with all other members of the SLT and the College Leadership Group in delivering college targets and priorities.
  • Keep abreast of changing national policy and practice with regard to the responsibilities attached to this position, through regular and on-going dialogue with key national and regional agencies.
  • Be a role model of excellence and professional conduct for leaders of teachers, teachers, instructors and assessors and be a consistently outstanding teacher.
  • Be responsible for those developmental projects designed to shift the culture and transform the leadership and learning, in order to drive up improvements in performance.

  • Working with other Senior Managers ensure the Curriculum Directors and Curriculum Managers annually review their curriculum offer, discarding the underperforming and moribund courses and developing new provision in line with government priorities and local need.
  • Work with Curriculum Directors to improve the quality of teaching and learning across all areas.
  • Lead on and ensure the College has a rigorous self assessment process which leads to real improvement, including the annual production of an SAR.
  • Support Ofsted inspection, QAA Review and other inspection activity as necessary.
  • Manage the formal complaints policy and procedure on behalf of the Principal’s office.
  • Contribute to the Monitoring and Performance Boards in operation across all faculties to ensure success measures are met.
  • Ensure that all awarding organisation quality regulations are met, including internal and external verification process.
  • Embed equality in teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Embed the use innovative of technology in teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Regularly review benchmarking data to inform the Senior Leadership Team of College performance and to inform target setting.
