Required Personal Protective Equipment: CSA approved safety glasses or goggles, CSA approved steel-toed footwear, 100% cotton coveralls preferred, when required per RETSD policy hearing protection.

GENERAL NOTES: Wear recommended CSA approved footwear. Clean/clear work area/surfaces of unused tools/material. Remove dust/debris on floor regularly.

No lighters, matches or cell phones are allowed in the shop area. Long necklaces, bracelets and rings should be removed. Long hair should be tied back. Strings and hoods hanging from pullovers/sweaters should be removed or tucked inside of coveralls.

Job Safety Analysis:

1 / Adjust back gauge, pressure and stops / Damage to workpiece / Refer to Operation Sheet and teacher/instructor to confirm correct set-up.
2 / Transport workpiece to Hydraulic Press table / 1) Strain/sprain from carrying heavy and/or awkward workpiece.
2) Hand/finger laceration from sharp edges of workpiece.
3) Trip/fall in area around hydraulic press. / 1) Get assistance from co-worker or use mechanical lifting device for workpiece that appears to be heavy and/or awkward.
2) Wear recommended gloves when handling workpiece.
3) Clean/clear work area/surface of unused tools/materials. Remove dust/debris/oil on floor regularly.
3 / Press workpiece / 1) Hand/finger amputation.
2) Damage to workpiece, and or hydraulic press.
3) Hearing loss from prolonged exposure to noisy machinery.
4) Eye injury due to debris ejected from hydraulic press point of operation. / 1) Keep hands/fingers a safe distance from pinch points. Do not operate machine without guards in place. Focus on task at hand and do not get distracted.
2) Be sure to stand within quick reach of stop buttons. Only trained and qualified instructors/students operate hydraulic press.
3) Wear recommended hearing protection (as per RETSD policy).
4) Wear recommended eyewear.
