A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Burnis "B.J." Jacobs.

WHEREAS, Burnis "B.J." Jacobs was born March 20, 1942, to Cody and Allie Huff Jacobs; and

WHEREAS, B.J. Jacobs was a lifelong educator, having worked as a math and biology teacher for 32 years. He was a graduate of Alice Lloyd College, and he earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky and a master's degree from Morehead State University; and

WHEREAS, B.J. Jacobs began his career as a teacher at Dilce Combs High School, where he taught math at the young age of 19. He finished his career at Knott County High School, and he also taught at hazard Community College. Teaching was part of who B.J. Jacobs was; he loved his students and the subjects he so diligently taught them. A patient and caring man, he was also an entertaining storyteller who could keep his students rapt with his words; and

WHEREAS, B.J. Jacobs was a man of many talents and hobbies. He enjoyed carpentry, plumbing, and electricity, passions he learned from his father. A skilled carpenter, he built homes for family members and friends. He also kept a garden and raised vegetables for his family to enjoy. Among his many hobbies, he counted University of Kentucky basketball and coon hunting; and

WHEREAS, B.J. Jacobs served God as an active member and deacon of Caney Baptist Church in Pippa Passes. He was instrumental in getting a new building for the church completed just before his health diminished; and

WHEREAS, B.J. Jacobs leaves behind his wife, Mary Lois Watson Jacobs; his daughters, Allison Jacobs, Carolyn Jacobs, and Regina (Bryan) Smith; his son, Mark Jacobs; his sisters, Revenna (Earl) Begley, Glenna (Harry) Gross, and Lydia Jacobs; his brother, Jimmy (Afo Jean) Jacobs; and seven grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, B.J. Jacobs departed this earthly life on December 16, 2010, and an entire community joins his family and friends in mourning his loss;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

âSection 1. The Senate conveys its most sincere condolences and sympathy to the family, friends, and community of Burnis "B.J." Jacobs.

âSection 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving memory of Burnis "B.J." Jacobs.

âSection 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit five copies of this Resolution to Regina Smith, 2184 Madrone Way, Lexington, Kentucky 40513.
